From the description it is a software problem, If you were sticking things in the scanner bar that would not help and it will prevent the laptop from working.
My Atrix also the fingerprint reader is not working but it keeps in a loop trying to read the fingerprint all the time. I had power off, take out the battery and nothing, do you know any solution? what can i do?
If you turn data execution prevention off (cntrl panel, system, performance steeings buton then the DEP tab) it will work.
