Wash symbol flashes and machine does not spin

My 3year old exxcel 7 washes fine on all programs but when it comes to the spin part of the programme the 'wash' symbol on the left-hand side flashes and the programme finishes without spinning the laundry which is left sopping wet. I have then switched the dial to OFF and then onto a spin programme. This sometimes works but often looks like it is going to work and then 'gets stuck' rotating with 1min remaining on the cycle and has failed to spin. I have tried putting in half the load but this makes no difference. Any ideas?

This sounds like a drainage problem. First thing is to check the filter behind the flap on front of machine.
Please post back your findings for further assistance.

SOURCE: Kenmore 80 Series - machine won't rinse or spin

Manually move the timer to the SPIN mode and turn it on.
If nothing happens, replace the lid switch.
With a model number I could be more specific.

The digital display is showing a KEY symbol flashing, and i can't program a new load. What does this mean?

This is the childproof lock symbol and prevents you from changing a program once it has been selected The symbol flashes if the program is changed during a wash cycle. If the machine is switched off mid cycle with the lock on then it will continue the program as so as the machine is switched back on. To activate the lock press the START button and hold for 4 seconds and the key is displayed. To deactivate the lock press the START button and hold for 4 seconds until the key symbol disappears.

Not fnishing wash cycle!

Erratic behaviour in wash programmes can often be due to clogging of the path between the tub and the pressure sensor which senses the water level in the tub. Clogging can result in water level being incorrectly detected (may read as too high or too low) for the stage of programme that is executing, which can result in a halt of the programme.

DRUM NOT SPINNING

Disconnect your washer's plug for 5 minutes or more from the wall socket. Plug in. Press "end of cycle" button for over 5 seconds, the child lock comes off.
Press it again and the child lock comes on................ If this does not work, try the pre-wash button likewise.
