SOURCE: some blank DVD+R discs will not read on my DVD player

The JVC DR-MV1S DVD Recorder / VCR Combo does not suppport DVD+R, only DVD-R, -RW etc.
At least mine only supports these formats, as when I first bought mine, I got some blank DVD's they were DVD+R.
I recorded a movie onto one on my PC, then tried playing it in the JVC unit... no go!
Instruction manual (available for D/load online) proved to me that I could not play +R disks!!

SOURCE: Inserted disc reading "No Disc"

Hello Brian,

It looks like you have a bad lens assembly. That explains the "No Disc" error. Just get the lens assembly replaced and it will be back to normal.

My dvd player keeps saying 'incorrect disk' why? and what can i do to stop it?

I don't understand your problem.
Is it the TV or is it the DVD? You say you tried other dvds and the problem is still there. Looks like the TV is the problem. Sometimes it's hard to help people when they only mention on screen issues. How can first DVD say 'incorrect disk' and then another dvd, and another still say 'incorrect disk'? It just doesn't seem to make sense. Is the contents on the disk a computer recorded movie, film or home movie? If so, you have to record the film on the disk with a format that accept the DVD. Could the DVD be a Blu-Ray, can it play a number of video formats, DVD, DivX, KviD DVD, etc.? Try first with a purchased movie DVD disc, if it doesn't work, then the DVD is faulty. DVD players these days are meant to play a wide range of video format, including CD discs. If you have an old DVD player, you may not play latest discs. But if the DVD is incorporated with the TV, then you have to insert a new movie and see if it plays. Go to an appliance or TV DVD store and talk to them. Or you can purchase a new movie and insert it in. If it doesn't work, you can always return it. As you said, you've tried different DVDs, sounds like it is a separate DVD player. If so, try other movie discs. I get the same warning only when I insert discs with movies I recorded on my computer, such as Pinnacle video editor.

We have a 23" Toshiba with a internal DVD player.

No,tv internal DVD player are not on sale by itself as a seperate unit, only can buy it from the tv corporations themselves and it not cheap and have to have experience to putting it in into the tv internal tv itself. The tv internal DVD player now, could be the laser eye data reader have problems reading mp3 and mp4 files on the DVD disc, which are video files. Now tries to play more than one DVD movies dic, tries like to play like 5 to 6 original DVD movies. One disc don't play tries another DVD disc.Tries this might forcing the laser eye reader to read DVD dics again and than might fix it to read video files again.Or just buy an external DVD player hook it up to the tv and play DVD disc on to the tv video modes.DVD players external devices are really cheap these day, like can buy new one for $40.

Dvd video player

Your DVD player is having a problem reading the disc. This is what is accounting for the pausing and the slow loading times...especially if it plays other movies without hitches. Even if the DVD is cleaned, some scratching on the disc will prevent it from being viewed properly. Blockbuster shoudl give you another disc to try of the same movie if you ask. Also, you can try getting a cleaner for your DVD player to remove dust and help it read discs better.

Won't Read blank disc!!

I my DVD-HR735 wont recognise any discs at times, and is getting worse. I've now discovered (out of frustration) that if I tip the front up to between 30-45 degrees, it will play all the discs it says were unreadable. I've started jamming three dvd boxes under the front of the machine when i want to play dvds.

This just worked for me. Don't know how long it will last though. I found it on this webpage
http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/15118/130292.html

To do a reset:
On the remote control press the SETUP button,
Press the right key on the remote 3 times,
The Preference page will show up,
Press the down arrow five time to highlight
"default", hit right arrow to highlight "reset"
Press enter to reset. Turn off/on machine, etc.

any commercial films are written to what's known as dual-layer DVD discs, which are like two DVDs sandwiched together. Movie studios try to pack as much cool stuff as they can onto a DVD, so by the time you add movie trailers, documentaries, and other special features, the amount of space necessary far exceeds the 4.7GB capacity of a regular DVD disc. Using a dual-layer disc expands the capacity to 9.4GB, which is enough to hold the movie and many extras, depending on how long the film is. What you seem to be experiencing is a problem related to the DVD player changing layers (when it must adjust the focus of the laser to read the second layer of the disc), which is usually indicated by a brief pause during playback. In the early days of DVD, many players had difficulty during the layer change, which could cause the DVD player to lock up during playback. In other cases, a badly formatted or damaged disc could be the culprit, so you should check the condition of the DVDs that are giving you problems. Since you mentioned that sometimes they work, your problem could stem from a scratch or a fingerprint. But, if the condition of the DVD is flawless, you may have to consider getting your DVD player repaired, replaced, or exchanged (since you mentioned it was new). Since it is a portable DVD player, you may want to try running the DVD player when it is plugged into an AC receptacle. This will at least rule out any relationship to the battery, though a remote possibility. But, portable devices do strange things when its battery is low.
