While watch the set the screen suddenly went black. Set still has sound but no picture.

there are several possibilities. first if the unit comes on and the "VIZIO" light turns white, but no picture or sound, then the main control board is most likely the issue. could be the LCD control board(s) depending on model one or two. and ultimately could be the power supply on the upper side....if the "VIZIO" light does NOT turn white, the whole power supply unit is out. after that, would have to scope the circuits to find out. Seems that the control board is the most common and tends to happen on many different sizes. new board will be around $350.00. Might get lucky and find a used one, but it MUST be EXACT part or it wont work right. if you dont find one or want to sell yours for parts, id be interested in the screen. can reach me at [email protected]. thanks, keith

Same thing just happened to me contacted Vizio had me unplug the TV from the wall for about a minute and then replug and cut the TV back on and everything was fine. I have the television hooked into HDMI1.

I have Time Warner Cable and just FIXED this problem. On the cable box remote, there is a button with the word "Aspect" on it. On my particular remote, this is the "#" button (pound symbol) and by pressing that button, it gives you options of "Zoom 1", "Zoom 2", "Stretch" and "Normal". By setting it to "Normal", it completely solved the problem. Oh and by the way, my t.v. is the LG 47" flat screen LCD. Hope this helps the other frustrated folks out there.

Look at the power supply first; look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

Please post back what you find. It sounds like at least you do have the 5V standby power supply working but the main supply is not getting the 'ON' command from the main board, or the power supply is gettin ght e 'ON' signal but failed to turn on.
