I was watching a movie with friends then the movie stopped and the hard drive was disconnecting / reconnecting continuously then he became undetectable like there was nothing connected to any PC i've tried, but he was still connected to the computer and running cuz i can see the blue light telling it's still running. so i restarted my PC to see if it can be detected with the BIOS, it was there as [ACER HARD DRIVE], things on this disk are VITAL and i need to get access to it by any mean, i don't care about Warranty if you have a solution ill take it.
SOURCE: external hard drive not registering with the computer
WOW!! I was out of options and was desperate to find a fix for my External. So i took it out of its case and looked it over like the other solution states. I decided to plug it in while it ws out of its case, and i began squeezing it among other things. Finally when i pushed on the area on the bottom where you can see the disk is located, it grinded for a second. After that my drive started to work again!!!!!!! Unreal i thought i ws gonna lose everything i had. Id recommend trying this as a last resort and it dont take alot of pressure, just press on it until you feel the disk vibrate.
Hope this helps someone else as well.

SOURCE: WD 250 GB external hard drive is not being detected by system
Hi !
First check if your WD is running (spinning), no matter if the blue light is on. Can you hear it close with your ear, or feel vibrations on your hand when it starts.
If it runs, then check/replace the USB cable you are using with another.
Check the Power supply if it gives necessary power.
If you are familliar with disassembling/assembling, then open and remove the HDD from the box and try to connect the disc directly to your PC (using another HDD Data/Power cables).
If it runs, and you can acces it, then something is wrong with the Box.
If it doesn't, then the HDD is broken or damaged.
Please note that if your device is under warranty, DO NOT open the box ! Contact your seller for service/replacement instructions.
Regards.

go to start control panel administrative tools services and look for plug and play and make sure it is set to auto at start up and enabled it so it is started this lets your computer recognize new hardware on your computer which should let see it in your my computer screen
i hope this as help if not well i tryed

Does the drive have a socket for external power? or do you have a USB cable with 2 usb and 1 mini usb?
Sounds like it needs external power.
