Battery pack is new; camera has not been used for 4 years. Nothing happens when I put (charged) battery pack and turn on the camera
If your battery does not seem to charge, then you need to carry out some tests on the device, the battery and the charger. First you insert the battery into another cam corder then you try to charge, if it charges, then it means the battery is okay and if it does not charge, then it means the battery is bad and need to be replaced.
Then i will advice you take the charger and try to charge another device to see if it will work, if it works, then it means the charger is alright but if it does not then it means the charger is bad and need to be replaced.
Finally, test the camcorder by plugging a well tested charger and battery into it and trying to charge it, if it does not charge then the problem is from the camcorder.

This incident happens often and damages the camcorder's power board. Replacing power board and some adjustment should resolved the problem. Your cost may run from $175-$225 in US for this model. Whenever you are transfering and connecting to pc, it is recommended to connect AC adapter power for this. Do not rely on a charged battery. Good luck.

The battery is probably so dead it is using all the power from the wall supply. Remove the battery, and run only from the wall supply.

maybe you have a p[roblem with your plug, if you see the orange light then it is charging

If you don't use the battery for a long period of time even a new battery may become dead. You can try a new battery. If it still doesn't work then the problem is with the charging IC. u can also try a desktop charger instead of direct charger.
iIt seems that the battery is low or not powerful enough to run the camera properly. when the camera notices there is not enough power it will automatically shut down. ensure the battery is fully charged up on the charger and then try it. the battery type is
Canon NB-3L and if the camera is a few years old or has been stored for a long time the battery may need to be replaced.
if all these have been done and still the problem persists i would recommend a dealer have a look at the camera.
to replace battery open slider plate on bottom of camera and flip tab to release the battery pack.
I hope this was useful.
