I'm beginning to think that the gateway zx4300 all in one has a major defect problem with the motherboard. Mine is 8 months old and the screen went black on me a couple of times then totally went out. I took it back to best buy (still under warranty) they sent it to Kentucky (gateway) 3 weeks later got it back and it's starting to do it again. I'm not happy and am pretty ********** at this point. I use my computer for business and this has been a major inconvenience and money loser. I want to have gateway trade this for a different computer. 8 months old for this to happen is unacceptable.
bonannorl, Maybe it can be fixed. You did not give any history of unit. Only "now" stuff. Is unit covered by Gateway warranty? How old is unit? Date of manufacture? Did unit work fine connected to your pc and this black or black n blank screen thing suddenly happen? Is screen also BLANK? Have you swapped-in old monitor to prove PC is OK? Your CCFL back-lit lcd monitor no different than any other brand in it's basic design and operation. Get into my fixya profile and read some of my testimonials and solutions to black or black n blank screen problems to help in your decision to DIY fix or contract out needed repair work. Most likely 2485w has problem with it's internal "switch-mode-power-supply"/"ccfl inverter supply"!! Let me know more info about unit.
12fixlouie on fixya.
The monitor needs to be replaced. I had an LG LCD that did this luckily it was still under warranty. Contact the maker and have your receipt handy. Otherwise buy a new monitor. Monitors tend to be replacement only
If the video card is an "onboard type" Is is not easy to replace. If you have a seperate video card, you may replace it with a like type, PCI, AGP,PCIe,etc. or if you computer has an open slot a video card can be added and turn off the "onboard video" in start up screen BIOS .
Since this is a GATEWAY(I do not know the model) computer you also always have the option of a complete restore .
Below is their website to download al the info:
Normaly, with warranties if the unit went defective on its own, there should be free service during the warranty period. If the user abuses or breaks the device by any means, then the warranty may be void.
You should ask the dealer or ever who sold you the warranty about the terms and conditions.
In the instrction manual, or the warranty policy sheets, there normaly should be a copy of their policy.
There are two different memory modules for that series. You can determine which you need by the chipset for you machine. If you have a Via VN800 Chipset You need the 1024MB-DDR333, 333MHz, PC2700, 200p SODIMM, 2.5v. If you have the NVIDIA nForce 410 Chipset The you need the 1024MB-533MHz DDR2-533 PC2-4200, 200p SODIMM, 1.8v Hope this clears up your problem
