Question about Toshiba Satellite M115-S1061 Notebook

Will Not Turn on

I have had the lap top for two or three years. In that time, I have had many issues with the charging pin...the adaptor has to be wiggled and jiggled to get any charging at all. Well last night, the pin got completely pushed in and I was unable to charge the laptop. My husband opened the case, repositioned the pin and I was able to charge the battery.

HOWEVER, now it won't turn on at all. The lights indicating that the ac adapter was plugged in, and the light indicating that it was charging came on. The charging light did change from orange to green, indicating that the battery was fully charged. However, pressing the power button does nothing. All of the screws are in place and properly screwed in and we touched NOTHING else when we opened the case. Please, please help.

Which pin did your husband reposition, I assume it was the one inside the laptop. He may not have connected the power switch cable back in properly when he rebuilt the laptop. Ask him to carefully check all the connections by opening the case again. These sort of repairs are normally carried out by experienced tech engineers. Some dc connectors (the bit that the power supply plugs into) have to be resoldered to work correctly or be replaced completely. The fact that you were able to charge the battery means little at this stage I'm afraid. Let me know if you need more help.

Well you shorted out the power switch from a guess im just guessing though you may have also ruined the charge port buy opening it up you should have let a tech guy fix it try going and getting a new charge port with a new charger that works with it and BEFORE you do try my first suggestion try leaving the battery out for a night or 2.

LAPTOP WILL NOT POWER UP, IT HAS THREE FLASHING BLUE LOCK LIGHTS FLASHING

The only time I've seen this in the past is when its a bad motherboard. This repair runs between $250 - $350. If your laptop is more than 3 or 4 years old, I recommend purchasing a new one instead.
If you want to be sure its the motherboard, call a computer repair shop and ask how much they charge for diagnostics. Most charge $20. Don't take it to a big brand name store like best buy or comp usa.

Hi guest, you cannot charge the laptop thru usb, it will be solely on the AC adaptor port. USB's are functioned for multi-media devices such as cameras, MP3 players, etc..

Ac adapter

In some laptops the power socket (DC jack) is soldered to the motherboard.
If the battery stops charging when you wiggle the power plug inside the jack, either you have a bad power adapter (test it with a voltmeter) or the power jack is broken or loose.
If the power jack is not broken but loose (not making good contact with the motherboard) you can resolder the old jack without replacing it with a new one.
The laptop would have to be taken apart and the DC connector resoldered.
This would cost $75 - $100. Enter your zip code in the box on the right hand side of the FixYa page to find someone close to you.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Battery on lap top is not charging

switch off - disconnect ac adaptor - wait 3 seconds - connect ac adaptor - repeat about 20 times.
Is charge light blinking when you connect ac adaptor?
Try reseating battery.
If battery is old (over 2 years) or heavily used then it may need replacing. They only last for 250-500 complete discharges.

Lap top problem

Hi

If the AC power light is blinking, try the following steps:

1 Cut off power to the computer by disconnecting the AC adaptor and removing the battery. The error condition will be interrupted, and the AC power light will stop flashing.

2 Put the battery back into the computer. Do not connect the AC adaptor. Try turning the computer on again. If the computer starts normally, the AC adaptor may be
defective and will need to be replaced. If the AC power light starts flashing, remove the battery, and continue with the steps below.

3 Connect the AC adaptor to the computer. Leave the battery out of the computer. Try turning the computer on again. If the computer starts normally, the battery may need charging, may be depleted, or may be defective. Turn the computer on, insert the battery, and then leave the computer running for several hours, which will deliver a slow, steady “trickle-charge” to the battery. Once the battery has been trickle-charged, it may begin working correctly again. If the trickle-charging does not prove effective, consider replacing the battery with a new one.

4 Connect the AC adaptor to a different power outlet, preferably in a different room. If the computer starts normally, there may be a problem with the AC outlet itself, or the voltage level available from it.

5 Verify that the AC adaptor is the correct unit for your computer model. The computer may not be able to start from an AC adaptor that is rated for less current (amperage) than the computer requires, even if the rated voltage is correct, and the plug fits correctly in the DC-IN socket. The labels on the bottom of the computer and the AC adaptor show the specifications for voltage ("V") and current ("A") for each device. The voltage level must match exactly. The amperage rating of the AC adaptor must be equal to or greater than that required by the computer

Mike
