SOURCE: autofcous and manual focus do not work

excuse me if this is a dumb question but you wouldn't believe the things people do...., but in manual mode are you actually manually trying to move the lens? as manual mode means just that you take hold of the lens and turn it. If it wont turn it sounds like the lens is jammed and needs returning/repairing.

if taking hold of the lens and turning it works for manual mode, take the lens off and clean the gold contacts on both the camera and the lens with a pencil erasor this may bring the auto focus back to life, switch back to auto and try again, if not its most likely the lens but take the body to a canon store and try another lens just to double check the body is ok

drop me a line if i can be of further assistance

best of luck

Film advance is loose and will not take a photo. can i fix this?

As ever, with mechanical cameras, DIY methods MAY work, if you have experience of this activity. A safer bet is to take it to a repair facility as it is, rather than a box of bits where you have tried and failed ! May be expensive, and not financially viable.

I have never used a pentax me super, is there a comprehensive manual that will help me learn about 35mm cameras?

You can download a copy of the manual from here. You might also want to check out some local public libraries and/or used book stores. Some of them might have some older photography books dealing with 35mm cameras.

I have many lens for XG-A what other minolta bodies will they fit

The XG-A, like the other X-series cameras, uses the older Minolta SR lens mount. You're pretty much limited to the SR- and X-series cameras. They will NOT fit the newer Maxxum bodies, for example, which use the newer Minolta AF lens mount.

Its my first time using this camera. I want to know how to take the lens off

Looking at the camera from the front, the lens release button is at about the two-o'clock position. Hold the button and turn the lens counterclockwise as far as it goes, then lift the lens clear of the mount.

You can download a manual from http://www.butkus.org/chinon/minolta.htm

Zoom in close for sports pictures

Do you have a zoom lens on your camera? if not, you can get one for it. your lens will say, for example, 70-200mm, or 18-50mm, for sports, you need at least a 200mm or so to get close enough to the action.

QUANTARAY FOR MINOLTA AF 70-300MM compatibility

Usually mounts are unique to a camera manufacturer. There are exceptions. Sony has the Alpha; lenses for the Konica-Minolta are the same mount. Your AF (autofocus) lens will work on it. You might also consider picking up a Konica Minolta 5D or 7D.....they're no longer made and hence are cheaply had.

The MD and Rokkor lenses won't work on the Sony Alpha.
THIS IS A CHEAP LENS (<$50 VALUE) SO I WOULDN'T LET IT DRIVE YOUR DECISIONS!!
