SOURCE: internet does not connect - can not get ip address

First thing you want to do, is to make sure all the network cables are plugged into the correct devices such as your router, modem and the computer. if all is running well (everything is blinking with lights) go to your computer, open the control panel, select network connections and open it.

Right click on the Local Area Connection and right click on it and select repair. Wait for about 2 mins. After that restart your PC. Try to get on the internet. If you are still not able too, you will need to go to the command prompt, you can do this by selecting start then run, type in 'cmd' and enter.

(The screen above is in German Sorry, but you will get the point)
You will see a windows that pops open, it should see something like c:\Documents and settings\keith> or something like this. type in 'ipconfig /all' you will hopefully you will see a ip address and a lot of other information. the ones you will need to look at is to see if your dhcp is enabled if it is then this will give you a auto ip address if it is not, you will need to get a static address from your isp. You will try to see if you can communicate with the IP address by typing in 'ping ' then the ip address. for example 'ping 192.168.1.1' if you have not packets lost, then that is a good thing. then try to ping your gateway, this will be your router ip address. you can find this ip 'Default Gateway' if you are able to ping this, you should be able to go online fine.

If you are still not able to fix this
after the c:windows> type in 'ipconfig /release' so it will look like this

c:windows>ipconfig /release
wait untill it shows 0.0.0.0

Then type in ipconfig /renew

Keep this in mind this is usful if you have DHCP enabled. unless your in a workplace, you should have DHCP selected.

SOURCE: I'm having problems with my tablet connecting to wifi I've rebooted my router other devices work fine with it it's not reading the IP address on the router it reconize it but want connect what can I d

You might have something going on in your settings. I remember the first time I tried to connect to a network. It was a nightmare. I was pulling my hair out! You only have one device to connect. I had three devices and none of them would connect until I went in and changed my settings. I hope this was helpful. Good luck.

When accessing the internet on tablet the `Unfortunately, internet has stopped` message appears even though it is showing that wifi is connected

Verify that your router has a good internet connection and that its local IP service (usually through DHCP) is running. Try entering the router's TCP/IP address (e. g., http://169.168.1.1) in your browser's address bar to see if you can get the router's status page.

One of the more common failures in older routers is IP service dropout, particularly if the router overheats because something was stacked on top of it. This will result in client error messages such as the one you describe.

Another possibility is an authentication failure, but that would generally mean somebody messed with the wireless network access password, or there's a bug in the wireless coding (as in some ASUS laptops - this was fixed in a firmware update).

I have had Wi Fi on my Kindle Fire and now it will not connect and keeps asking for an IP address

When you connect to Wifi and if it shows "obtaining IP address" means it is searching for the IP address of the wifi sender...
when you connect to internet it is done through IP address so your phone is tying to locate an IP address with which it can connect
to the internet. Below are the steps to connect your device to Wifi:
Applications-->settings-->turn Wifi ON-->select the wifi that you want to connect from the list displayed-->enter the network password(if it asks for) -->connected Another easy way...just open the chrome app in your phone and try typing in some website like google.com when it tries to connect a pop up will appear "try connecting to WiFi ..mobile data will incur charges.." something of that sort...and you can click connect to wifi...and automatically it will detect the wifi that is around your location. You can check for your IP address through Ip-details.com

I have the digiland tablet dl700d(c) and I can't connect to Wi-Fi I called Wi-Fi support they can't help because the mac address keeps changing is anyone else having this problem and what do I do

Hi
I find your question very interesting, and also your WiFi support comment, because in 18 years of IT consultancy and troubleshooting I have never come across a changing mac address.
The mac address is
"a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces for communications on the physical network segment. MAC addresses are used as a network address for most IEEE 802 network technologies, including Ethernet and WiFi."
The emphasis here is on "unique" and all network adaptors I have come across - ethernet or WiFi have had a fixed mac address. Are you sure they didn't mean IP address, as this is supplied by the router/access point via a DHCP server, and can change according to the access requirements of the router/access point.
If you go here:
MAC address Wikipedia the free encyclopedia
you can learn a lot more about mac addresses.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

What does the key password mean for wifi

Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. . Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Internet explorer connection

Hi there,

This problem could be due to your DNS settings or your IP Address. First of all you will have to configure your router to accept the new computer. To do this you will need to go in to the router in your browser window and add your new device.

Then you will need to configure your router to either automatically assign an IP Address or use an allocated IP Address and use the same setting on your new computer. Also, you will need to configure your router to either assign a DNS Server automatically or to use an allocated DNS Server and once again you will need to use the same settings on your new computer.

Your IP Address is crucial in order for your new computer to connect properly to your network. Your DNS Server is crucial in order for your new computer to access the internet through your network.

If you still have problems, please do not hesitate to contact me directly on Skype (Skype Username: fixya-support)
