make sure the machine is getting enough water. even though it is filling it might not be enough. depending on the model it should be half way up the heater ends. check with the user manual. also some models have a chopper by the pump that the screen gets plugged up. You will need a torx head screwdriver to access this.
I have the same problem, and sometimes, when I add salt to my water softener, the problem goes away until the next time I need to add salt. Other times, I have no idea when I'm going to have the crud in the glasses. I've tried different detergents, rinse agents and even different shaped glasses. Seems the glasses which have slightly larger bottoms than tops are worse.
