Question about Cherokee Jeep Grand CD Changers - 10-Disc

1 Answer

Error message I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a factory installed 10-cd changer. The changer will not accept the cd cartridge and therefore the cd player will not work. I have removed it and sprayed compressed air inside the changer to remove any dust particles that might have been causing any problems, reinstalled the changer and no change in its operation. What else should I try?

I just posted the same problem.. The disc holder in my 99 jeep will not engage in the holder. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. It might take 30 attempts to get it to lock into the CD changer. Sometimes I have to switch power off and on and this works sometimes but most times not. It just seems that for some random unknown reason the disc holder will lock then it operates properly. I will then page through the installed discs which works then again, at random the player will list an ERR and eject the holder starting the whole scenario again. Any advice qwould be greatly appreciated.

I also have same situation. When you want it to pick up a disk it clicks then will go to err.
    Help, please.
They want $400 for a new one. Outragious.

Mech Comm Error

sounds like they may have forgotten to take out transit plugs from radio which holds cd mechanism in place when shipping unless you got a new radio thats a dud? but that may also mean dealer didnt check operation of new unit after replacement if replaced which is what usually needs to be done when this error message comes up

Err message on 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 10 CD changer

I had a similar problem which responded to the use of a CD cleaner disc to clean the laser lens reading the CD. The "err" messages stopped and the changer started to work as it had before. Perhaps this will correct your problem too.

2003 Gran Cherokee CD Changer

I don't know if anyone's helped you with this yet, but to find the CD changer, open the rear door, and if you look just below the rearmost right window you'll see a hatch with a release button. Press the button, lift the lid, and there's your CD changer. Hope this is helpful. Good luck!
