Kirby Ultimate G self propelled drive unit locked up

The self propelled drive unit on my kirby is locked up.  The rear wheels will not turn with the switch in "n" or "d".   Is there any way to release it manually so I can run it before I take it into the repair shop?

No, you just need to take it to a shop for repair.

How and where do find the switch to activate self propel unit in G4 series kirby

To place the kirby G4 into gear - out of Neutral - just press down with your foot, the Gray & Green lever that is labeled N on the left side of the lever, which is gray, and D on the Right side of the lever which is Green (probably for GO). It is located directly below the Power button.

Good Luck

Kirby G5 self propel problem

There is an adjustment for the transmission and it is wrong. It could also be worn. The Kirby has an amazing warranty. See if you can get it serviced for free.

Is there some trick to putting a transmission belt on a kirby gen. 3 ?

It would be very unusual to have a transmission belt problem. To access the belt; the handle, and switch cover plate are first removed. Next remove the 4 screws that hold the upper motor cover in place. Next remove the switch button by prying up gently on it's attaching lugs and pull it free of the switch actuating rod. 3 screws hold the transmission to the base. DO NOT remove the screw in the rear beneath the on/off pedal. By dropping the power drive assemby slightly down, you should be easily able to remove the belt.
P S: I have repaired 100's of power drive Kirbys, and have never seen a bad power drive belt. If the self-propel seems to work poorly, it is usually because the rear wheels are worn out.

Replace the transmission. The tranny that drives these Kirbys can give you problems.

Jon,
Here is a helpful link to use to adjust the tranny. About a 7 on the difficulty level.
