My LCD viewfinder (not screen) also has gone black

The look-through LCD viewfinder on my Panasonic Digital Video Camera model PV-DV351D has gone black.  The 2.5" screen still works fine.  It's as though the LCD viewfinder thinks the screen has been pulled out, which in normal operation blacks out the viewfinder, because it assumes you're looking at the larger screen.

SOURCE: LCD broken Panasonic PV-Gs 320

Hey, all.

I also have this problem, but have a little more to add:

Here is a website that carries the lcd screen: http://www.pasc.panasonic.com/Epartr/PartsList.asp

I think that its the following part number:

L5BDDYH00022 LCD DISPLAY (MONITOR) 87.56
$87.56 sucks, but it could be worse. Problem is now, I'm not sure how to replace it without taking the entire camera apart.

Let me know if someone does this successfully.

Thanks!

EAL

I don't see any display in my Panasonic PV-GS250 mini DV.. is it a hardware problem?

Did you solve this? Also, could you be more specific? No video on either the LCD or in the viewfinder? Both when trying to record and when playing back a tape?

Describe your Panasonic PV-GS35 Mini DV Digital Camcorder Problem: When I turn the camcorder on in the video camera mode the lcd panel and th evf show black, it does not show current picture to record. All...

There was an earlier post that explained the black ribbon between the LCD viewfinder and the body of the camera is split. You would have to buy a new LCD viewfinder for about $90 or send it back to them to fix for around $250. The same thing happened to my camera and I can actually is the split. If you close it down more than half way the picture shows up. I called Panasonic and they said you have to buy the whole LCD, that you can't just buy the ribbon. They don't even have a part number for just the ribbon. Good luck.

LCD kaput - anyone know of a panasonic recall?

The panasonic camcorder does not use the Sony CCD element. If the small viewfinder is showing the camera video, there's nothing wrong with the CCD imager. We have had numerous problems with the switch that controls the activation of the large LCD and the backlight inverter that powers it. When you open the LCD the small viewfinder should power down to conserve battery power. The large LCD should then illuminate, if not, shine a flashlight at the surface of the LCD and notice if the video is present, if so, the backlight or LCD harness is defective.
