Be careful, release needle clamp and slowly rock the hand wheel. use tweezers or small pliers to hold needle and gently twist/pull as the wheel is rocked. The needle will loosen and come out with patience, use as little force as possible

Singer 8280 was sewing and all of a sudden the machine stopped working, the needle was in down position, would not release fabric, had to break needle to release.

Sounds like a piece of the needle is stuck in your bobbin case. Take it apart and brush it out. I mean remove your bobbin and the case, use a new paint brush if you do not have a brush with your sewing machine. Let me know if that made a difference, if not, we can try something else.

My fabric is stuck down inside where the needle goes

Try to remove the needle from the needle clamp. And, try to remove the bobbin case from the machine. Then slowly and gently snip the threads that are holding the needle in place. Do not yank or pull on the fabric as it could damage your machine.

Sewing machine jammed with needle down and material can not be removed. Help I can break the needle, I really just want the fabric out.

Usually, the needle & fabric will release if you are able to remove the bobbincase and the needleplate. You should probably try to do this to remove the broken needle tip, although usually it will drop out of the bobbin area and land somewhere in the bottom of the machine.

Why does stretch fabric keep getting stuck in needle plate?

Your needle may have a slight niche in the end. Run your finger around the tip on the needle. Good Luck...xo

Needle arm stuck

Firstly, do you pull the fabric as it goes through the machine; this is a surefire way to break needles. Tension imbalance shouldn't be breaking a needle; more likely the thread would break if the top tension is too tight. And botton tension shouldn't need adjusting at all.

It may be that your needle is striking the presser foot if you are applying some "pull" to the fabric at the back of the foot.

But sewing very heavy fabrics is a challenge for many domestic machines - upholstery, heavy denim and canvas is tough going for many machines. Some tough mechanical machines will manage it but many won't. You can try using a roller or walking (even feed) foot as this may help with moving the fabric through but often the feed dogs just can't grip and move the heavy fabric enough. If you need to sew heavy fabrics regularly maybe consider finding a 2nd hand industrial straight stitch machine such as the Singer 20U.

In the case of your Bernettte, remove the needle plate (two screws), pressure foot, stub of needle and bobbin and then search the bobbin rotary hook area and see if there is a piece of needle stuck anywhere, you may need to turn the machine upside down and see if it falls out of the race area. I think this machine has a plastic horizontal bobbin case ??? If so, you will probably find that this has dislodged and may have been struck by the needle so remove it and give it a good visual check for damage, if there is a pierce mark, then give this a file down with an emery board to smoooth it. While it is out, see if the flywheel will now rotate the rotary hook fully.

Then reassemble by putting the bobbin case back in lining up the mark on the case with the stopper in the rotary hook, replacing the needle plate, pressure foot and a new needle.

If you can't get it to unlock at all, then it will need to go to a technician for repair.

When the needle descends it gets stuck as it enters the bobbin case area. It will only release if I move the bobbin. The thread from the needle gets knotted up and pulls the fabric down into the bobbin...

Could be a few things. Absolutely minutely check that the top thread is threaded properly. Otherwise, it could be: Old thread. incorrect thread for the material. wrong size or blunt needle. or incorrect tension on needle I had this problem and I was missing a part of threading even though I have been sewing for years. :)

Needle Sticks - Huskystar E10

When it feels like the needle is jammed, open the bobbin cover and release the two black retaining levers, one on either side of the bobbin case. The hook cover that is visible will be released. If the machine turns by hand smoothly, you may have a piece of the broken needle, or just a piece of thread stuck behind the hook or hook cover causing the bind. This problem will sometime make you swear that the needle is stuck in something because it will usually bind while the needle is down in the fabric.
