I recently upgraded my memory from 256 MB to 3 GB. Everything is fine with 2 memory cards installed. But when I add the 3rd card the computer will not boot. Is there a setting in the bios that I need to change for it to accept the 3rd one.

  • randytw1 Jun 07, 2009

Checked all the memory and they are all fine.

No there is no setting to change in bios. It is likely that the third piece of memory is faulty. To test this, take out the working memory and put in the stick that causes the problem and see if the machine boots. If it does then there is another compatiblity issue. If it does not work then it is ceratinly the memory module that is faulty... return for refund/replacement. Need more help? Chris the computer doctor http://www.motherboardsrus.net

Are the memory modules of the identical speed rating. Memory is "backwards compatible" which means you can run a piece of ddr2/pc4200/533mhz at 400mhz.The golden rule is that the memory is not "forwards compatible" so this means you cannot run ddr/pc3200/400mhz at 533 mhz. The other golden rule is that you cannot mix different clock speeds on the same system, hence my question... are the memory modules matched in the clock speed. There should be a label to look at on the module.Chris

I have a dell dimension 4600. It has original memory cards installed. 2 256 MB for a total of 512 ram. I recently tried to install 1 GB memory card. When I start up computer it beeps several times,...

hello

several beeps in a system is caused by a memory issue -- If you've recently added or tried to add additional memory to the computer and have started getting these beeps. Remove all new memory you've added to the computer. If the computer works fine after removing the new memory you're encountering either an incompatibility or defective new memory.

Sometimes when the computer is moved and/or over time a memory stick can become loose causing the computer to be unable to read the memory or get errors as it's reading it. Try fixing this issue by opening the computer removing each of the memory sticks you have in the computer and then placing them back into the computer.

If reseating the memory did not resolve the issue try swapping the location of the memory. If you have only one stick of memory in the computer try moving it to another slot and then boot the computer.

If you have more than one stick of memory try removing all but one stick of memory and boot the computer. If this does not resolve the issue try removing that stick of memory and try one of the other sticks of memory.

the specs can be found at this link
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4600/en/4600i/sm/specs.htm

the system you have is upgradable to 4G of RAM, and this RAM must be installed in equal pairs
so if you have 4 slots to insert memory in (assuming you will retain the 2 256M) , you must install the other slots by 2 512M, 2 1G or 2 2G DIMMs -- make sure you isntall exact same DIMMs, dont mix memory makers or specs, other than what Dell specifies

memory type must be
PC2700 (333-MHz) or PC3200 (400-MHz) DDR SDRAM
(non-ECC)

i hope this helps --

Can I upgrade to windows 7

Download and install the Windows7 Upgrade Advisor software using the following link. It will tell you what upgrades you may need.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor

NOTE: [These are my recommendations only] You should have a Video Card with at least 256 MB Ram to take advantage of AeroDesktop. You should have a minimum of 2 GB of System Memory.
I have a laptop with 1 GB System Ram and only 128 MB Video and Win7 works well.

I want to upgrade my ram what type of ram should i use and how what is the maximum amount of ram i can upgrade to?

Hi,
Memory Upgrade for Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop, the Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. For best Laptop performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Laptop.

Upgrade olympus d-560 256 mb memory to 2 gb memory

The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is an M or H 512mb card. The 1gb or 2gb cards are not compatible. Due to the age of the camera Olympus has no plans to provide any upgrade for allowing a larger memory card.

Nikon Coolpix 4600: Problem: It won't take any photos, it reads: THIS CARD CANNOT BE USED. The card is 128 MB. I purchased a new card: 2GB but it won't work also. My manual says to clean the contacts...

1) Have you formatted the cards?

2) Try the cards in the card reader in your computer to see if they can be read.

3) Try the "switch off camera - remove and replace battery - switch on camera" trick with the original 128 Mb card in place. This will reset the camera's memory.

4) Note the type of card is important - not all cards can be used in a camera (especially some of the latest bigger ones) - check the type of cards supported by your camera.

I found this at the Nikon USA site (note that the 2 GB card is not listed - as said "Cards are not all the same" and use different drivers to operate them):

Question Which Secure Digital Cards are approved for use in the Coolpix 4600/5600? trnsp.gif Answer The Nikon Quality Department has tested the following cards and approved their use in the Coolpix 4600/5600:

SD memory cards:
SanDisk 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB, 256 MB*, 512 MB, 512MB*, 1 GB
Panasonic 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB*, 512 MB*,1 GB
Toshiba 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, 128 MB*, 256 MB, 256 MB*, 512 MB

*High speed type of 10 MB/s or over

Other brands and capacities of cards may work, but Nikon cannot guarantee their operation. Check with the manufacturer of the third-
party card for compatibility information. Nikon recommends keeping one of the approved cards available for troubleshooting.
