Remove the frother nozzle: if its the early type with three hooks, slide the frother body down before trying to remove it. Disassemble the frother and clean the three holes in the end. If the holes are blocked, the steam can't escape. If it's not pushing hot water through the coffee holder, pull out the water reservoir, and remove and clean the grid plate assembly where the coffee holder clips in.

This machine can get items stuck in the drum, the bearings can go bad etc. https://www.repairclinic.com/RepairHelp/How-To-Fix-A-Washing-Machine/38-5-620929-/Whirlpool-Washer-won-t-spin-GSQ9669LW0.
After grinding did you hear the brew group goes up and pump start? If you hear the pump start and stopped, itis blockage in the brewunit metal screen. Just needs cleaning.
If you don't hear the pump starting, the problem is with the faulty micro switch inside the gearbox , that is behind the plate of brewunit.(service center job)
Hi If you take the brew unit out and there is coffee in the chamber, you have a broken brew drive. It is usually from over dosing or using too much coffee in the pre-ground mode. The brew drive is what compresses the coffee. If there is too much coffee in the chamber, it can't compress the coffee and the drive breaks.
You have not missed anything. Unplugging for longer than 16 minutes (has 15-minute memory) is the only troubleshooting you can perform. Call Cuisinart to find out if you are still in warranty. All electronics have a failure rate. Cuisinart's is acceptably low, but their coffee makers are the least reliable of all their products. The basic problem with electronic coffee makers is that coffee makers produce high heat, and high heat kills electronics and melts plastic. At least Cuisinart has a 3-year warranty - higher than the industry standard. Let me put it another way. All coffee makers have a high failure rate. As many Cuisinart coffee makers that break down, the non-Grind-and-Brews still have a 91 rating from Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports doesn't give ANYTHING a 91 rating. A lot break, but you probably won't fare much better by switching to a different brand. The problem with a Cuisinart breaking down is that an expensive unit broke down - you wouldn't be upset if your $15 Mr. Coffee broke every year. The law of averages is on your side - a 2nd Cuisinart will probably last longer. -Tha Mp3 Doctor
If the noise is extremely load. The gears are stripped in the gear drive behind the brew group. The gears themselves are plastic.
Bad news is it has to be sent to a service center, replacing and realigning the gears to the brew drive is extremely difficult, and i just wouldn't recommend it being fumbled with.
Even my tech, who has 10 years experience hates realigning the gears. Takes about an hour if not more.
Now...for the reason the gears stripped. Its one of 2 things, but they revolve around the same problem
A puck got stock inside the brew group, and when it made a second cup, both got lodged, and the brew group tried to force it and killed the gears.
Its either that or your coffee is ground too fine for the machine. Yes, the machine can grind it too fine. Actually, anything under 2 is not recommended because 90% of the time it leads to this problem.
I'm sorry there isn't an easier fix, its just the nature of the beast.
You say " I am getting a weak brew because of not being able to adust the grind to more coarse with the adjustment knob in the bean hopper" By making it more coarse you are making it weaker. Unless you just wrote it wrong.
To make it stronger you should lower the grinder number to a smaller number. Usually about 4-6. Be sure you have the grinder grinding when you move it to a lower number.
The pump noise could be that in shipping your pump came loose from it's mount. Nothing you can do without sending it to a Authorized Saeco Repair shop.
