Ink jet printer will not print. Canon Pixma ip1880

Yellow "resume" light keeps flashing about 15 times when I try to print. Have cleaned everything I can reach. Cartridges are the original which worked when first installed, they have been taken out and replaced about 4 times. I believe it is possible to reset but I don't know how, I have pressed the "resume" button, then pressed the "on" button, then pressed "resume" twice. No help. I pressed the "Resume" button 5 times again no help.
Please can anyone assist?
The printer is a Canon Pixma ip1880, but is not included in the list of products below so I listed it as Pixma ip1600 in order to send the message.

If you could count the exact number of times the light flashes that would help.  If it is 15 exactly, you need to replace your FINE cartridge.  If that doesn't help, the carriage may need to be serviced.

Perhaps change the cartridges?  You might also try to clean them.  If this doesn't work, you're probably looking at a new printhead.
