check to see if the brake lights come on when you press brake pedal. if they don't it is stuck in park because your brake light switch doesn't work and the swich also tells the shifter lock to unlock so you can move shifter. so If no brake lights fix brake light switch and that will fix it. the switch is located at the top of brake pedal
Seems verry likly that the lock switch has stuck in the lock position and will most likly need to be replaced. Unless you are able to remove and spray with a contact cleaner
There is a neutral safety switch on cars with automatic transmissions which operates the reverse lights, and a reverse switch on manual transmission models. You need to check voltage output on which version you have.

If you have the standard pull out push in switch, reach underneath the dash and push in on the small button on the switch (look at the new one and you will see it...looks like a small rivet head with a spring under it) While holding the button in, pull the knob and shaft out, then just remove the nut around the switch extension and remove/unplug the switch. Once the new one is in, just push the knob back into the switch and it will lock in.
The fork lock is part of the ignition switch assembly. You have to remove the swich (tricky little button under the switch with the switch in accessory position I think) after which you remove that lower inner fairing schroud that has your rear speaker, cruise, accessory, and passing lamp switches. then remove the lock. The lock has a harness that needs to be unplugged. I'm uncertian if the outer fairing needs to be removed to unplug. you will know when you go to unplug it.
