You could try this if you have a normal computer scanner or the document is a file on your computer before being printed. Sounds like your fax machine is simply broken.

Follow the steps below to perform a fax diagnostics test. 1. Set up the all-in-one for faxing according to the setup instructions found in the product's User's Guide. 2. Make sure you have inserted the print cartridges and loaded paper before starting the test. 3. Press Setup, 6, and then 6. This displays the Tools menu and then select Run Fax Test. The HP all-in-one displays the status of the test on the color graphics display and prints a report. 4. Review the report. * If the test passes and you are still having problems faxing, check the fax settings listed in the report to verify the settings are correct. A blank or incorrect fax setting can cause faxing problems. * If the test fails, review the report for more information on how to fix any problems found. 5. After you pick up the fax report from the all-in-one, press OK. Then turn the printer off, and then on again. If necessary, resolve any problems found and rerun the test. If the test passes and you are still having problems faxing, check the fax settings listed in the report to verify the settings are correct. A blank or incorrect fax setting can cause faxing problems.
