Question about HP Hewlett Packard Pavilion Slimline S3100N PC Desktop

1 Answer

Why can't I get my HP s3100n to run USB 2.0?

I have a HP s3100n computer. When I plug in a USB device, I get a message that "This device would run faster if you plugged it into a USB 2.0 port. Then is shows all my USB ports. None of them have USB 2.0, even though my computer says I have some. I've tried to download and install a generic "USB 2.0 Standard Enhanced Driver", but when I attempt to upgrade the driver for either the USB "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller", I recieve the message "Windows has already installed the best Driver for this device. Does anyone know how I can change my USB 1.O port to a USB 2.0 port?

This usb device can perform faster if you connect it to a hi speed usb 2.0 port. I have an hp pivilion dv 6000, and according to the specs, I have usb 2.0, but I get this message every time I plug my flash...

This is just an error message. Yes, your HP Pavillion has USB 2.0, but there's a possibility that your USB flash drive has USB 1.1 specs.

If the flash drive has USB 1.1 specs, you would still get the same message. Again, this is just a message because USB 2.0 is backwards compatible with USB 1.1.

Have a great day!

Bought HP S20 New in box on Ebay......installed software......powered up and linked USB......message "communication with scanner lost" cannot rectify

I use an older USB Powered Hub between my computer and the S20 scanner, a Belkin I found at a garage sale for $2 works fine. It is only rated for USB 1.1. The S20 is a USB 1.1 device. My computer was "too fast" with its USB 2.0 ports and it looks like I needed to "slow it down". There is no way it will worked plugged directly into the computer, but plugged into the hub, and then the hub plugged into the computer, it is very reliable.

Windows XP had nothing to do with it, from what I can see. I had Windows XP on a previous computer with only USB 1.1, and ran into the problem when I got a computer with USB 2.0 ports.

Usb ports not working

hi,

What device are you trying to connect? was there an error message when you plug in the usb device. try booting up your computer to safe mode with networking.

1. Restart the computer
2. Keep on tapping F8 when you have the HP logo screen, using the down/up arrow of the keyboard choose safe mode with networking. if the device still not working then it could be a problem with the USB driver. You may try restoring your computer back to the working time using system restore. Just go to start then Accessories - System tools- system restore.Restore your computer to a working date.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.
