PC w Intel D945GNT shut down suddenly, will not restart
Going along fine, no prior clues of a problem, then suddenly a few clicking relays and screen goes blank, drive lights go out, no bluescreen even. Subsequent attempts to start resulted in relays clicking and drives lighting for a second, then nothing. Now no response at all. Power supply was cool, hard drives were very warm. Let it cool down overnight, but still no response at all. Oddly, when power is supplied, Ethernet LED is lit, so some power does seem to be supplied to the board. There did not seem to be a lightning event.

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. The D945GNT appears to have been discontinued - however, processors are always made to fit a certain standard socket type. In this case, you will be looking for a motherboard that uses socket LGA775 and has a FSB (Front-Side Bus) speed of 533 Mhz in order to use the same processor and RAM.
These motherboards are still available through the internet, although they are getting older and may be harder to find, but any one of them would work properly. My recommendation would be to read as many reviews as possible before deciding on a certain one.
Motherboards that support 533MHz RAM seem to be harder to find these days, but boards with 800 MHz FSB speeds are pretty common, so you might have to buy new RAM sticks to go along with the new motherboard. The good thing is, RAM isn't all that expensive these days. I would advise checking well-known internet retailers to see if you can find a board that suits you.
she is having trouble because she knows them capacitors are going bad...... replace them... but it nay be more than that... dont give up on finding this problem, because you may find a breakthrough!!
