Vcr eating and/or ejects tape

When I try to play a tape, sometimes it ejects automatically and has either an R or T on the screen. It only rewinds/ff when it is playing and recently my timer recorder has stopped working.  Regular recording works fine.

Tape heads should be cleaned first and gears lubricated. This job can be done at home if you purchase lithium grease and are very careful not to get it on the heads or spools. Greasing should only be done if you are confident in opening it up. Otherwise, seek a cheap professional.

VHS tape is running at high speed when insert it to VCR. no playback..buttons doesnot work.

Check if the fast forward button is more inside than the rest of the buttons. May be its stuck in the ff position. After all they were just micro switches below the plastic buttons strip. The specific ff micro switch may be stuck, if I were you I would try some switch cleaning spray to loosen it. But be prepared that the control ic is busted.

Power goes off when a cassette is inserted. Tried cleaning heads but it won't even run that. When power is turned back on the cassette is immediately ejected.

Good day!!!

Most common problems
  • VCR refuses to FF or REW and shuts off.
  • VCR shuts off entering PLAY or REC or at random during PLAY or REC.
  • VCR eats tapes.
  • VCR doesn't accept tapes or ejects them without cause.
  • Sound is wavery, fluctuating, or muddy.
The cause for all of these is very often a bad idler tire or other dirty, worn, or tired rubber parts

Unit accepted cassette, won't eject

It is likely that either the drive belt has broken or is slipping. Because the unit is still in "play" mode, the mechanism won't let the door open up. If you have not opened up these units before, do not attempt it now. This unit should be taken to an experienced tech for repair. Where are you located?

Tape won't play, FF, or eject.

sorry to say that none.no trip button for that.i assumed that the magnetic strip of the tape is already wind up inside.you'll need to open the unit up and gently rotate the flywheel of the tape player until you can open the door of the tape compartment.no need to force or it will just break.

Sharp VCR Model VC-685U

Actually the problem is in the capstan drive. If you replace or clean the idler, the problem will likely disappear....accordianman

Camcorder has problems

I've had mine for about 3 years and just last year it started giving me playback problems....the screen would have blue stripes across it and sound won't play. I could usually fix it by rewinding and playing again...but it's not correcting itself right now... I hope I didn't waste 60000 yen on this c_c;

Symphonic sc1304, vcr problem

Pulley belt stretched, replace. Remove the back cover to tv, slide the chassis out, remove speaker connector, and other ones to allow the chassis to be out away from cabinet to take the metal cover off surrouding the vcr unit. Usually a couple of screws that hold the whole vcr unit in, remove these, lift the unit from the chassis carefully and check the belt as it is stretched and not making tight grip on the white pulleys that perform the mechanical functions of the VCR. When putting back together, and replaced the belt be sure to lift the vcr door inward before sliding the chassis back into cabinet so the door latch will open and close properly, otherwise you put a tape in and the door won't open back up.

Eats tapes

When a VCR eats a tape, it can be cause by a couple things.

1. There is a rubber wheel called a "pincher wheel" that compresses the tape against the "capstan". The capstan is a shiny metal spindle connected to a motor. The pincher wheel can become worn and/or dirty (slick) from the oxide coating off of the tape. You can try cleaning the pincher wheel and capstan with alcohol or try using a re-grip solution on the pincher wheel. Last thing to do is replace the pincher wheel. Look to see that the pincher wheel is doing its job by pulling the tape through. The pincher wheel & capstan are not used during a fast forward or fast rewind, so if your tape is getting caught during the FF or RW and not Play, it's probably not related to capstan & pincher wheel.

2. There is a small tire wheel called an idler tire. This tire pivots between the sending and pickup reels of the player. Its also used during fast forward & rewind as well as play. If the tire is worn, the tape won't be wound up as fast on the take-up reel as the sending reel during play. This means more tape is coming out of the cassette than can be wound up on the takeup reel. You can try using a re-grip solution on the idler tire or replace it.
3. You didn't say if the unit played ok. There's also a brake pad that is designed to grab and stop the tape wheels from spinning when you hit stop. If those pads are worn, the wheels will not stop fast enough and the tape will continue to feed (spool) out of the cassette and not be taken up by the other wheel.

So when when you hit eject, the excess tape that should have been wound up tight in the cassette before the eject sequence, is getting caught inside the player.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good luck!
- Jim
