Wont stay lit

I purchased by reddy heater over year ago  30-55,000btu. It had been working fine until today. After starting heater, I  keep the button pushed in, but when I let go, the heater quits.  I have held the button for several minutes, but it still quits when I let go.  I let go very slowly but it will not stay on.  It normally stays lit when I hold it for 15 - 20 seconds. The only thing I can think of is the thermocoupler is bad. Please let me know what you think and also how to fix the problem.

I have the same problem. It had been running for up to an hour and then would go out. It would relight if the button was held for around a minute but now will not relight.

Yep, sounds like you got it. Unscrew the fitting at the gas valve and take the thermocouple to a reputable Propane Gas supplier. They can match it up for you or you can order one off the internet.

This is a classic reddy heater problem. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4258201-fix_gas_reddy_heaters_will_not_continue which should solve your problem.

Propane heater wont stay running

is the sensor for the thermocouple located in the right spot in the flame, remove it and if you have access to a propane torch, heat the end till its red hot and leave it connected to the gas valve, then start the unit and this will tell you if the sensor is properly positioned in the pilot flame on the unit itself,if not you could have a defective new thermocouple or another safety device keeping it from staying lit or the gas valve is faulty

Torpedo heater wont stay lit.

Do you have the serial number or the manufacture date? There are some design changes and I would need to know the year of manufacture to assist accurately. Usually it is a relay or the thermocouple connection that will affect the unit staying lit.

Reddyheat rlp 100 will not stay lit, strong gas smell.

I had the same problem with my Reddy Heater PRO 100. It is the 20Lb bottle causing your problem.
I Put a 100LB bottle on and ended my problems.

Reddy heater rlp 100

Sounds like the thermocouple is not working or the flame is not hitting the thermocouple. It may take 30 seconds of flame or longer to keep it on. Check for a loose connection at the gas valve.

Either a 30# or 110# tank of propane will work. You might even get by for a short period of time using a gas grill tank, depending upon how cold it is outside.
