Screen turns red

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence


These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Count the number of flashes for the red power button. I'm not a Hitachi owner, but you can track one down here on fixya and they''ll give you more info. One of the internal components have failed and is keeping the power supply unit from firing up. Do you hear a relay click when you try to turn it on? If so, how many times does it try to fire up?

they cost around 300 new, can order it off the hitachi web site, but i would look on craigs list and watch for someone getting rid of a 57 inch tv, and snag that one , use the screen off that, doesnt have to be same brand

My hitachi 57f500a wont turn on i pulled the back off and there are only one green light on and the relay keeps clicking when the relay clicks another green light flickers and the red one come on and goes off.

You may have a bad convergance chip, a bad CRT( picture tube ), CRT Board ( board pluged into the picture tube),or a bad video chip. Although this is somwhat a common problem on this model of set, I have found many different fixes. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good Luck

Yes, you can fix it and is not to expansive. The RGB output IC is defective, but it's not easy to replace it. Better call a tech. If you're from Montreal I can do it.
