Disc Read Error generally means that the game disk cannot be read by your console.
Reasons for Disc Read Error 1. Disk surface scratched or smudged. 2. Disk surface dirty. 3. Lens surface dirty.
Here is what you can try doing.
1. Check the game disc for any scratches or smudges on the surface of the game disc, try to clean them off by using a non-abrasive cotton cloth.
2. If the PS2 console is lying down, please set the console to on its side or if it's on its side set it to flat position, restart the console and then try game again. Always ensure the PlayStation 2 is in a cool, well ventilated place.
3. Remove and reinsert the Memory card of your PS2, restart the console then try running the game again. Other troubleshooting that you can try.
Change the Disc speed of the PS2 DVD and then try again.
Start the PS2 with no disc in a drive. Press the "triangle" button on the controller. Use the up and down buttons on the controller to select "Playstation Driver” and press the "triangle" button on the controller. Select Disc speed. If it is set to "Fast," select "Standard"; if it is set to "Standard", select "Fast" and press the "X" button on the controller. Press the "O" button on the controller. Insert the game disc and restart the PS2. Try running the game again.
Turn the Diagnosis On for PlayStation2 to auto detect the best settings.
From the Browser and System Configuration menu. Press the triangle button to select Version. Highlight the Console from the list and press the triangle button - this accesses the next menu option. The Diagnosis will be highlighted. Press the X button to access the options available. Highlight "ON" and press the X button to affect the change. Restart the console and try the game again.
If the above steps does do not solve the error then you would probably have to replace the disc.
Note: If you are using the Slim version of PS2 make sure that the console is properly ventilated and that it should always be in the standing position, as the slim version of PS2 no fan or any other cooling unit unlike the normal PS2.
ok my friend is olde and slim so what we did to temporlary fix it is clean disc and put the ps2 standing up and see if it spins . if it doenst open and then spin it by hand . then try it again contact me at [email protected] and have the subject
" ps2 not spinning because i am carefull bout new viruse going around on this kind of computer
Does this problem apply to ALL of your discs? If not, then first, when putting your discs in the tray, be sure that ALL of the three PINS on the tray that holds the disc are locked in place, meaning they should all be sticking out on the hole of your DVD. This happened to me a lot...heheh...then, if this problem apply to all of your disc, There probably is a problem with the lens of your PS2...either slim or the fat one...then the only solution is to have your lens replaced...sorry, but i don't know how much it cost now...
can you go into the browser ? can you view your mem card? You can try the auto-diagnosis. heres how Auto-Diagnosis (PlayStation 2 system)1. Turn on the system without a disc inside.2. Once at the Main Menu, press the triangle button to enter the Version Information Screen.3. Highlight the "Console" option, and then press the triangle button again.4. Next, press the X button, highlight "On", and then press the X button once more.5. Now press the circle button twice to return to the Main Menu.6. Press the eject button on the front of the console, and insert a disc.7. Now close the disc tray, but DO NOT reset the system.8. Highlight the Browser option from the Main Menu, and then press the X button.9.
In the Browser, an icon of the disc should appear on the screen.
Highlight this icon, and then press the X button to read the disc.10. If the auto-diagnosis is successful, the disc should load properly at this point.NOTE: The auto-diagnosis feature will return to "Off" the next time a disc is inserted. or try cleaning the lens and games
Your PS2 lens is faulty or it is physically jammed in it's metal rod which stops the lens to move smoothy. you better open the PS2 console and observe it offline for jam. or replace the lens with a new one.
