After you installed the latest VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller driver from Driverguide.com , did you check the Device Manager?
What is seen in + Audio video and games Controllers?
Since you have tried to install other drivers, I am wondering if you could have corrupted the drivers.
If you have got the Right Drivers saved , I would suggest the following:
1. Start the Computer in Safe Mode
2. Open Device Manager> + Sound, video, and game controllers
3.Uninstall everything EXCEPT audio codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers and Video Codecs
4. Close Device Manager
5. Restart the Computer.
6. When the new hardware found message comes direct the wizard to the downloaded driver for installation
the audio controller is audio controller is a VIA VT8233 AC97 Audio Controller. VIA Technology website and download the VT8233 drive and it will definately work...good luck
