SOURCE: after putting faceplate back on it will not close
it sound like you have a broken ribbon cable. it is a part that needs to be replaced professionally.
SOURCE: faceplate stays half opened, half closed will on not turn
I have the exact same problem. I called the Kenwood tech line and the tech reported that the ribbon cable is probably broke. It is the flex cable between the head unit and the rotating face plate. He said it's not an expensive fix but we would need to mail it to a service center if you're like me and not near one. I just replaced mine with a new unit. It was about time anyways.
