Wont open it will not open it closed without the faceplate on now it wont open

If it's a newer model it should be spring loaded which makes it close automatically

Sometimes the mechanism is misplaced, just disassemble that mechanism and turn on radio without the secondary plate and wait until the motor to get to the final position when it turns off again, reassemble.

Use the following steps to close the disc tray on an original Xbox 360 console.
Step 1: Remove the disc from the tray Step 2: Make sure the faceplate is on correctly
The faceplate is the plastic piece on the front of your console.

• Press firmly around the edges of your faceplate to snap it into place (make sure it is flush with the rest of the console). If the faceplate is not on correctly, the disc tray won't close.
• If you find that the faceplate is the problem, please contact Xbox Support to order a replacement faceplate.

If this does not resolve your issue, please try step 3. Step 3: Press the eject buttonTry closing the disc tray by pressing the eject button. If the disc tray successfully closes, open the tray and insert a disc. Now try opening and closing the tray with a disc in the tray.
Note Make sure that the disc isn't sticky and doesn't have any labels that could prevent the tray from closing.
If your disc drive still will not close, please try step 4. Step 4: Move the disc drive tray

1. Gently move the tray up and down, and then from side to side.
   
2. Press the eject button on your Xbox 360 console.If your disc drive still will not close, you need to have your console repaired.
3. Step 5: Request a repair If the disc tray still won't close properly, your Xbox 360 console needs to be repaired.

Xbox 360 S consoleUse the following steps to close the disc tray on an Xbox 360 S console. Step 1: Remove disc from the trayIf there is a disc in the disc tray, remove the disc. The faceplate and head unit is is attached via a flat ribbon cable. (Caution only continue if you have some courage). If you open the faceplate you will see that the ribbon cable is seated in too a flat connector on the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). This connector has a locking mechanism on it that when locked presses the contacts of the cable to the connector. Ensure that the cable is seated properly and that the latch or the lock is in the locked position. Assuming that the tension lessons when the unit is closed so it draws away from the connector and when the unit is open it pulls tension creating a contact. If you see no signs of mishap on this end of the connector try the other end.

The very first thing, I would suggest you is to check the CD cover, as sometimes labels on CDs prevent tray to close.
If that does not work then do the following.
Remove disc from the tray, make sure the faceplate is on correctly.

Power your unit off using the button. when it's off unplug the power source from the back of the XBOX and leave it out for 30 sec. Reconnect the power source and reboot your machine. Try the disc tray again. If it doesn't work try giving it a tap or a solid knock on the top of the case above the disc tray while it's trying to open. Don't drop the machine or try to pry the tray open. If it doesn't open when you tap it then try light pressure on the front of the tray while it's trying to open. (you can tell it's trying to open because the disc status on the screen will say opening...)

Now if the above did not work
Get a straightened paper clip.
Remove the faceplate carefully starting from the indention that you will see on the side
After removing the faceplate, look for a pinhole just below the disc tray.
*There are two pinholes just below the cover of the disc tray and one pinhole below the X and B of XBOX logo.
*You can try any of the three holes
*Pinholes are so small that the girth of the paper clip is the only object that can fit through the pinhole.

Now insert the paper clip into the pinhole then put a little pressure until the disc opens.

If it opens try to close it, if it closes try opening it again, if it wont open the second time then it need to be serviced
If it opens try to close it, if it wont close try nudging the disc to the right and then to the left, if nudging doesnt then it need service
If it wont open after trying all three pinholes - its needs service

It may be jammed or the drive gear stripped.

it sound like you have a broken ribbon cable. it is a part that needs to be replaced professionally.

Detach the faceplate and look at the electrical contacts on the back of it for damage/dirt - you can spray it with electrical contact cleaner. Do the same to the contacts on the head unit - it sounds to me like one or more of them are a bit loose or otherwise not working properly.

well i had the same problem with my xbox is i opened the faceplate and pressed the button and if that doesnt work u will have to wiggle it around a little bit if it comes out what u need to do is take some WD-40 and spray some on a cloth or something to wipe the sides of the tray and the silver part of the tray and open and close it a couple of times if it opens and closes put the faceplate back on and it should open and close now

i had this same problem at first you have to manually adjust the angle with the remote control to fix this.
