The printer was working fine. Then I got a message saying to "check the printer" and push the "ok" button. I also noticed that the ink tanks showed that they were full when I know that there are two that are nearly empty so something is wrong there for sure. When I lifted the top of the machine to check the ink tanks they did not centre as they should. I tried pushing the "ok" button several times but nothing happened. I then tried to print something and I got a message on my computer to push the "ok" button. Still nothing happened and then the machine just shut off and now won't start up.

i'd recommend that you get some fresh drivers, as they can go corrupted over time...look here for that link
SOURCE: error code: U150 The following ink tank cannon be recognized (Cyan)
U150 ink error fixed!
I too was getting the error for unrecognized ink cartridge. Then the
little green circ board fell out of the end of the ink cartridge and it
hit me that maybe if I put in the little green circ board from the old
ink cartridge of the same color, then maybe the ink cartridge would be
recognized. It worked! So don't throw out an ink cartridge that still
has ink just because of that error and hold onto your empty cartridges
in case you need the little green/gold circ boards.
This works!

OK, Boys and Girls...here finally is the complete answer to the problem of the waste ink tank counter reset for Canon i250 and i350 printers.
1. Disconnect printer from AC power (take out AC cord or power off your power strip). Disconnect USB PC cable from printer.
2. Press and HOLD the POWER button (untill step 7).
3. Reconnect power cord (turn on power) to the printer.
4. The indicator should be green.
5. Press and release the RESUME button , the indicator should be orange.
6. Press and release the RESUME button again, the indicator should be green.
7. NOW Release POWER buttons.
8. NOW Connect the printer to PC (USB cable).
9. NOW...I opened "Printers" and saw that a "copy" of my printer (i250 or i350) had been made. Make that COPY your default printer and all should work...It did for me.
You May Thank Me NOW!!!!
I must say...I went into the "GUTS" of the beast and cleaned out the PADS (they are actually vacuum pads that the INK is sucked through during a HEAD cleaning) a very messy undertaking.
I'm not sure how much life this will add to your printer.
Good Luck

Hello Neil, If the quality of print is fine then i dont think there is a problem with your printer head. It must be some error with the software or some other part in ur printer. Do check the printer for some other faults.

Hi
A grind that is too fine will result in your espresso being too
bitter. Rinse between shots because the infuser clogs easily with black
espresso muck. Not rinsing will cause the machine to shut down with a message
that the "grind is too fine".
Try removing the beans from the hopper and use a vacuum to CLEAR/REMOVE any
grounds and then adjust the grinder 4 clicks clockwise. Try turning the
grinding regulator 1 click clockwise and see if that works. If not try inserting
the water spout press the ok button and then run water a few seconds.
If you remove the water tank too early while it is making coffee it will
display that message as well.
Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the
suggestion.
