Don't know what Minn Kota you are talking abut but my 55 pound Thrust one does NOT have a Reverse.... When I want reverse I swing the Prop all the way around so it is pulling the boat backwards..... I just checked it to refresh my memory......
Check the capacitor, but be careful, they store a good charge, like a tazer! Once removed and safely discharged, check it for damage and function. A dent will ruin it.
One check is to connect an ohm meter to the tabs, the needle should swing over and come back. Reverse the leads and do it again, the needle should swing again. If so, it's usually good.
Also check the motor bearings. With the belt off, the pulley should not be able to move side to side, and the motor should spin freely and quietly.
you could have a bad throttle pot o speed pot possibly a key switch problem aswell. Hi I a Phillip the "DFW Mobility Specialist"send me a email at [email protected] if you live in or near the Dallas Fort Worth area.
Hello,
To check the capacitor disconnect the wires from it and use a meter set to ohms..if using a digital meter set it to a high ohms setting, place one meter lead on each wire terminal and the display should constantly be in motion in as much the display will go from 1000 omhs to 20,000 ohms and just continue that if the cap. is good and the display will stay the same and never change if the cap. is bad
On a analog meter the needle will swing to zero and rapidly go back if the cap. is good and will swing to zero ohms and stay there and the needle is will not drop if the capacitor is bad.
If you remove the lid off the player, the arm then swings all the way backwards and allows you ample viewing for needle replacement when turned upside down.
Good day,
The capacitor will not show continuety. That is normal.
To test it, you must have an anolog vom meter, a digital meter will not work.
If you have an anolog meter (the type that has a needle that swings from left to right) set the ohms setting at it's highest position, at least RX1000. Higher would be better,
Check the meter by touching the probes together, They should swing the needle from left to right. Then..
This must be done quickly. Place one probe on each terminal of the capacitor. Then quickly reverse the probes. You should see a short, quick, jump of the meter.
If so, the capacitor is O.K. If nothing the capacitor is bad.
