you may have blockage in the drain pipe several feet from washer. if you can run spin cycle with hose in different location ex. tub, sink or outdoors. if this works run long snake down washer drain pipe to clean gypsum residual.

SOURCE: smoking washer Amana NAV8800AWW

Ok, that's a different scenario. Generally, when a washer is agitating and develops an overload that stalls or overheats the motor, the problem could be caused by:
1. Too many clothes for the amount of water level selected. If clothes don't have enough water to circulate in properly, it can put excess pressure on the agitator which transfers to the gearcase, drive belt, and finally the motor. The motor is thermally protected and stops running until it cools down, then it will try to restart. In the process the drive belt could burn slightly to completely,so you may want to inspect the drive belt for burned areas.
2. Transmission malfunction, where something inside the transmission breaks due to an overload and jams a gear. End results can be the same as above.
I suspect a clothes overload may have caused the problem and once the overload is alleviated, the washer should operate normlly if the belt didn't burn,

SOURCE: won't drain or spin

Sounds like the lid switch which is only about 30.00 to fix if you do it yourself. It's a little difficult but it's much better than replacing or having someone come in and do it

SOURCE: amana nav5800aww water on floor after spin cycle

Sounds very similar to having something such as a sock or small article of clothing that is too large to be sucked down the drain hose into the pump. So what happens is it hangs around between the inner and outer drums and sometimes gets itself lodged over the drum drain hole, and can allow water to be centrifically flung over the top of the drum. Most times when the spin cycle stops, the article of clothing will dislodge and float around inside the drum only to do it again later....
If you can remove the top of the machine, you can usually see the gap between the two drums and use a piece of coathanger wire with a small hook on the end and "go fishing in the area between the two drums and close to the drain hole location... bet you'll find something in there... Let me know how it goes... and if I can help .. ken

oL is an Overload error. Try running a cycle empty.

If oL (overloaded) appears in display, the load too large. If an overload is detected, the washer will drain any water and detergent in the washer. Remove several items and add HE detergent. Close lid and press START/PAUSE.

Machine will not spin or drain water.

I have a problem with my MW512AU. Sometimes it drains after wash cycle, but sometimes it sticks when it goes to spin, doesn't get up to speed, water comes on for about 10 seconds and shuts off, and it tries to spin again. If I hit the wash progress switch it goes directly to final spin and works ok. I then have to run a 2nd wash cycle to rinse the clothes. I also noticed a buzzing sound when I turn on the power point, which lasts about 3 seconds before stopping. It will come back on every 3-4 minutes for 30 seconds. This is with the machine power switch off. It powers on normally.

Frigidaire (LTF2940E) Washer starts, stops, starts, stops...

The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Water level high when spin/drain cycle begins.

The water level is higher when in the rinse mode; but it should never leak. Examine the interior through the rear, there should be a loose hose somewhere. Or at the filter area. Plug off the mains caution.

Washer agitates, drains OK, but spin doesn't start

Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......
