SOURCE: replacement screen for my garmin rhino 120

Hello joewilly31,

It looks like Garmin offers complete factory overhaul for out of warranty Rhino120 units for $99. For complete details on how to get an RMA number and ship the unit to Garmin for repair go to their website at:

http://www8.garmin.com/support/outofwarranty.html

While it may also be possible to purchase parts from Garmin directly, I would recommend against attempting to repair the unit yourself unless you a lot of experience working with and repairing surface mount electronics devices.

Hope this helps.

MY RHINO REVERTED BACK TO MANUFACTURE DATE

the battery inside is dead, this will cause the date to be wrong;
just like the same thing on real computers.
the clock in side is RTC time clock chip and needs power to work.
power = battery.
#1 all time failure on any portable device is batteries.

you could ask them directly at

I cannot hear other radios with my rhino. It

Check the manual to see if you can set the PL tones (CTCSS) and set them to the same as the other radios. If you hold down the monitor button and you can hear the other radios this is most likely to be the fix.

Power Switch will not turn my Rhino 530 HCx on

When I try to turn it on it comes up with the “rino” initialization screen and buzzes/vibrates at 5 second intervals. It never goes past this screen. Occasionally, for about 1 second a small white bar will appear across the bottom saying “0%. I’ve recharged the Li battery and got the same result. I’ve tried it while connected to the charger. Same result. I’ve tried using the optional 4 AA battery pack with fresh alkaline batteries. Same result. Did the factory reboot (page/enter/power buttons). Same – except instead of a buzz/vibrate I get the tone every 5 seconds. Have to remove battery to turn off.

Contacted Garmin tech support today (10/22) - hope to hear from them soon.

Garmin 530 gps radio

I am guessing that the unit is out of warranty. if this is the case go to http://www8.garmin.com/support/outofwarranty.html to handle your repairs. while I have not personally sent anything to Garmin, I don't expect you to have any problems. Garmin is a highly recognized company for both thier products and for there service.

Transfer data

Hello tompkin,

Programming the Garmin Rhino 120 using a PC requires an interface kit and may also require a RS-232 to USB converter cable or a 9-pin to 25-pin serial adapter depending on what interface is available on your computer.

The interface kit and cables are available on the manufacturer’s homepage for the product: www.garmin.com/products/rino120. Click on the “Accessories” tab and scroll down.

Best Regards,

Agent Ken

Transfer data to PC port

You are going to have to get a USB-serial adapter. Most electronics shops carry these.

Screen Blanks

I had the same problem with an etrex Vista. I spoke with Garmin, they said that a recently launched WAAS satellite is interferring with some models (he mentioned it is the models with a black and white screen). Garmin tech support said that they're working on a software patch but for the meantime switch WAAS off.

Call Garmin tech support with any questions or to find out about the software patch, 1-800-800-1020
