Insert the dvd you want to finalize. When the menu loads press Stop and then press Setup on your remote control. Scroll down to disc edit and press the Enter or OK button. You should see the word Finalize there, select it and then it will ask to Finalize Yes or No. Select Yes and it should finalize your disc perfectly and play on any player.
You have to finalize the disc. if the disc goes to the end it will finalize the disc automatically. If there is some part of the disc not used you have to do it yourself. IN DVD MODE PRESS SETUP, THEN DISC EDIT, THEN FINALIZE. FINALLY PRESS YES. That should do it.
Turn off the machine and turn it back on again, before the dvd loads hit the setup button on the remote, you will see a list of possible choice and edit will be one of them, wait until it lights up like the rest, that will mean that your disc is loaded, finalize is one of the choice under edit.
This may be a little late but I just got off the phone with customer support. Once you have recorded the program you need to hit stop twice for the finalizing menu to come up. If you only hit it once you will get the disc menu with no option to finalize!!! I know that this worked for us, I hope that it works for all of you :)

on page 38 it instructs you to press setup on your remote, from the drop down menu you need to select disc edit and then select finalize.
this aggravated me at first because nothing happens when i hit the setup button, i powered off the unit and hit setup before the disc loaded. this step is not mentioned but is necesary. you cannot finalize a disc after it has loaded to the title menu.
