Question about Refrigerators
The problem started with the frige not dispensing water or ice... when trying to get ice or water the lights would dim but nothing would come out... Then, about a week later it stopped cooling and with this it started clicking like crazy. The clicking noise is coming from the back behind icemaker behind the light. If I open the frige/freezer doors, the lights are on and if I adjust the temp controls the frige/freezer will cool again for a while but it eventually stops. The frige is only 2 years old byt is out of warranty except for the sealed system (compressor, condenser, evaporator). My dad says the compressor is working because the frige is cooling. I will call GE for service if this problem sounds like it's under warranty otherwise i will call Sears. Please advise... Thanks!

I was having the same issue. Had GE tech come out and turned out to be the same thing zabu011 mentioned. Part # WR51X10101. List price is $62.70 through GE, labor was 163.15 (included an $80 charge for comine out). So, if you have this issue, you can save yourself some money and find the part online, which I have since done and see it listed for $30.

I am having this same problem and I have diagnosis that the compressor is working, the compressor fan is working, but the evaporator fan is not working. My coils have frost on them showing that they are cold and the bottom of my fresh food section is freezing milk. But the upper part of the fresh food and freezer section is warmer than it should be. Any other recommendations as to what the problem might be? What controls the evaporator fan?

If it does cool then it isn't a sealed system problem. Most likely it is a bad mother board. It is fairly common on this one. I would call Sears and they will probably offer you a smart agreement which will be cheaper than the repair and give you a 1 yr warranty.
