Need to know wat ip number is and port is

such a complex topic and so little info!

to reach an open port you need to know a couple things
1) the ip address your trying to reach x.x.x.x
2) the port you will use :xxxxxx
and it can be put into a browser like so 71.233.23.40:8080

to make it so people can reach you is the fun and dangerous part!
things you will need:
1) your wan ip (google "what is my ip")
2) the specific device you are making available's lan ip (cmd - ipconfig /all works well on windows)
3) what port your supposed to open (i'm sure the documentation or program says somewhere)

log into your router and find the port forwarding and triggering section under advanced in a netgear (application and gaming in some others)
1)name it
2)put the number to open in twice
3)select protocol (ive usually used tcp... udp for file transfer sometimes)
4)fill in the rest of your lan ip
5)tick the box to enable and save settings

now there is a hole letting traffic on a certain port reach the named lan ip... OH, make certain that device has a static ip, if its ip changes you'll find headaches at inconvient hours.

this printer comes with a USB port for connecting to your computer. Unless you have the printer connected to an airport express base station, the printer will not have an IP address.

I assume you are talking about using a VOIP device such as vonage to make the calls? There are a fw things that will stop it from working. One is that the setup on the voip unit is wrong. It needs to know the gateway number which is just the ip number of the normal router connected to the cable or dsl modem. It can also be a port setting in your router. To see if this is the problem you can try connecting the voip device directly to the modem. Then try to make a call. If it works then you know it is a port or an ip setting. If it doesn't you could have a faulty voip device or it isn't being authorized by the company.

Your computer is connected to the router. check the port lights on the router. If your computer is connected to number 1 port on the router then you will see port 1 light on the router.
Connect your computer to one of port 1, 2, 3, or 4. Not to the Internet port.
If the port light is not lit up then check the connections. Make sure that there is no loose connection.
If ti is lit up then check the IP address on your computer. The default gateway number wil be the IP address of the router. Use that number to access the rotuer settings. Some times the Ip address of the router will be different ( Depends on ISP ).
Once you have correct I address of the router then try to ping that number and check if you get replies.

In this scenario we can open port numbers on the router but for that we need the list of ports that has to be open and that we'll get from ps-3 support services
Get the port numbers and follow these steps to enter them:-
1)Open the router gui with 192.168.1.1 or http://routerlogin.net by typing it in the address bar for the user name as admin and password as the word password only.
2)On the Netgear smart wizard .left hand side you will find a small blue/purple column with different categories , look for the one that says advanced and click on port forwarding/port triggering and select port forwarding from there and click on Add custom service from the bottom .
3)A new screen will appear which will have the following options:-
Service name:-(any name)
Service type:-tcp , udp , tcp/udp
Starting port:-
Ending Port:-
Server Ip Address:-(enter the ip address of ps-3) and apply the setting's.
The value for the starting and ending port will be same i.e if suppose we have a port no. 80 for the ip:-192.168.1.15 and tcp as the service to open then this is how it will be done:-
Service name:-abc
Service type:-tcp
Starting port:-80
Ending Port:-80
Server Ip Address:-192.168.1.15

After forwarding all the port numbers go for the connection test on ps-3.

Good question. It is easy to change the port if you can actually log on to the camera. (Setup/Network(IPv4)/Connection Mode. Then choose either static or DHCP and change the port number.However, I suspect you are asking this because the office firewall will not allow you to connect to the device. Thats a problem, because this camera is a web server and you need to access it through its IP address to change its address!! I have hit this problem with another web server camera and I was able to use port 8080 in that case. What I did was set up the camera at home on my router and locked in the new port number and then used DHCP to let the work network assign a different IP address. However, many network administrators block whole ranges of ports. I presume you have tried simple Port 80? You may need to ask your network Admin what ports are open. There will always be some. I have encountered a problem recently with Viewnetcam and my IP provider...Verizon... which is blocking a whole range of incoming port numbers because their terms of service are that you cannot operate a web server on your residential network so they block all traffic that is trying to access it.

UDP ports: 6672, 28900
TCP ports: 8000-8001, 27900, 28900

Hello.. If you already have the port numbers needed and static IP on your computer, you can do the following steps to open them on your router:

1. connect a computer to the router wired.
2. Launch an internet browser and type in http://192.168.2.1. Use the user name and password that you have set for your router.
3. Click on the Firewall tab, then Port Forwarding
4. For the Protocol, specify if the port you will open is TCP or UDP.
5. Set the port numbers on both WAN and LAN port range then set the Static IP address on the textbox then click add. After doing that, check if you have an apply,save or ok button and click on that.

If you do not know how to set a static IP on the computer, you can do the steps from this link. This depends on the operating system of the computer you are using. Make sure to set an IP address in the range of 192.168.2.x (x being a number from 2- 200).

at the time of portforwarding in that you have to give the port number of the device which ip address you put in means if ip cam is there you give the port number for that example 90 you give then you have to give the device.
