My Magellen came with a black disk with adhesive on 1 side. Intended to be adhered to any smooth surface (e.g., windshield). The mount for my unit includes a suction cup. So, mount black disk to windshield and attach suction cup to smooth side of black disk. Be sure disk is positioned where suction cup and bracket and GPS will have sufficient room to mount everything.

Interior rear view mirror fell off my 98 BMW 540i

There is a small set screw that holds the mirror to the small metal button. Most vehicles use a small Phillips screw but some use a Hex Key Wrench (Allen Wrench) type screw. Slide the mirror off the button. Make sure not to remove the glue before you put the button back on. Trace around the glue with a grease pencil on the outside of the windshield before you remove it. So you know exactly where to replace the button. You can buy a Rear View Mirror Adhesive Kit for around five dollars.

Mounting of gps can't mount on windsheild.

Tomtom GPS devices come with a variety of windshield suction mounts. All have in common that the windshield and the suction cup both must be clean; use a mild soap dispersed in some warm water to remove any dirt. Rinse properly. Sometimes it helps to keep the cup a little moist.

Make sure the cup is not warped due to previous exposure to heat, and check for any nicks in the rubber. Small damage may easily make the mount unusable and you'd need to get a replacement.

Models with a lever mechanic: open the lever (cup becomes flat), press the cup against the windshield and while keeping pressure, close the lever. It will lift the middle of the cup away from the windshield, causing a vacuum.

Models with a ring around the cup base: Turn the ring all the way counter-clockwise (cup becomes flat), press cup against windshield and while keeping pressure, turn the ring clockwise 90 degrees. This requires some force, but in my experience these mounts stick more reliable,

Where do I put the round disc, on the windshield? I have a Magellan GPS and I don't know where to place the round disc, it does not seem to be even mentioned in the instructions. Thanks.

you put it where u like, the instructions say slightly to the right of center, check your local laws on this in some states it is illegal to mount the GPS on the glass.

I just recieved a reconditioned XL330-S and wonder if the soft rubber disc on the back of the mounting bracket is supposed to be mounted on the windshield? If so how, it doesn't have any adhesive on it.

its not suppose to have any adhesive on it. not sure with one (mount ) tomtom gave you with your unit (they have a few differant ones) but if its the one that looks like the one pictured below, you just press it on the windshield(make sure its good and clean)

that is absolutely the worst mount them make, normally they wont stay on long and your gps will fall off and hit the floor and most likely damage it.

you should of gotten a black plastic disk to use to put under the mount for good adhesion .

Today I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 1300 GPS system. In unpacking the unit I was able to identify the use of all parts except a small disc that was white on one side & black on the other. The black side...

the disc your talking about, is used to help secure the suction mount when the mount wont secure on its own, like to the dashboard of your car and in some instances even the windshield....

i put mine one the windshield but i do not need the disc for my truck, but not all cars or truck work without it.

the disc will help insure the unit wont fall from where its mounted but like i said, i dont use the disc unless needed.

btw, thats a nice unit you bought.

Can anyone send me instructions as to have to

The disc should have double-sided adheasive tape affixed to it. Often times a well armoralled dash doesn't make the best surface for that mount to work.

I usually cup mine to the windshield next to the rear-view mirror, but if you would perfer it to be on your dash, I recall hearing about a product called the "GPS Buddy" that provides a mounting location via one of your cup holders.

Those disc's prove pretty worthless for most vehicles.

Unsure how to mount tomtom on car windshield

I was perplexed by the lack of instruction as well. However, I took the unit to my car and realized that the black disk is not needed for mounting the unit to the windshield. If you look carefully at the bumpy plastic ring just above the suction area, there are two little pictures on the back of a lock; one open and one closed. With the ring in the open position, push it against the windshield and turn it to the closed position. It then sticks to the glass very well. I now just snap the unit in and out of the mounting ring that I leave stuck to the glass. I hope this helps. I assume that the presence of the black disk is to bring people closer together with digital communication.

HOW TO MOUNT GARMIN DASBOARD DISC

California nor Minnesota allow windshield mounted objects.
Garmin an a few others sell a device that has an antiskid pad, has shot (lead) for weight so it stays put on the dashboard. It is shaped like a donut, about 8 or 9 inches in diameter. In the center it has a smooth surface so that you can install the suction mount that otherwise would go on the windshield. You can buy them at Wally World or Fry's. Even some of the Worst Buy stores carry them. They are $39.00 however in the first 2 places you can find at around $24.00 to $29.00.
