In order to prevent programs like AVG from changing your homepage please pay attention to those options during the installing of these programs. They will often ask you to install additional toolbars or change your homepage.
To change your homepage please do the following:
Open your internet browser
Open the options/preferences
Usually the field for homepages is in the general tab or first menu you get when you open the options
Enter your desired homepage address in the homepage field
your browser homepage, your desktop??? not sure what you mean.
browser home page backgrounds can change due to theme preferences. different locations coming up can be from some apps changing your homepage, installing new software downloads from other servers can do it, etc. details of exactly what is changing would help.
Setting your homepage depends on your browser. If the Google chrome browser is your browser of choice, Google is automatically the home page. If its Safari (the default browser for apple products) then click on the word "safari" in the header, then "preferences" then change the homepage url to google.com
If you are using internet explorer or others, explore how to change your preferences

If you can not find your homepage, you can simply select the "House" icon on your FireFox Browser. This is located on the side of the URL bar. If you are on Internet Explorer, this will also be the "House" icon. If you wish to change your homepage: go to Internet Options and change your homepage to the desired website.
Yahoo doesn't offer a browser of their own. You can make it the default homepage of any browser.
Internet Explorer, Firefox (Mozilla), Chrome (by Google) and Opera are browsers most commonly used with Windows. Safari is the Mac OSX/iOS browser.
In Internet Explorer to make a page the default homepage, open the Tools menu. (Click on the Gear icon or Tools (press Alt to show the menu)) Then select Internet Options. In the General tab, you can either set the current page as the default homepage or enter a specific URL to be the homepage. Click Apply to save your changes and click OK. When you restart IE, the listed page will be the homepage.
In Firefox, click Tools and then Options. Under the General Tab, you will be able to enter your homepage choice.
Similar options exist for other browsers but I don't know their toolbars.
If you can't reset the homepage, either malware has been installed or a malware blocker is actively preventing you from changing the homepage. (A malware blocker should pop up with an "I've stopped this action" message. Then you should be able to disable it to change your homepage and then re-enable it.)
I hope this helps.
Cindy Wells (Yahoo does have their own IM program but I don't know the program. For Windows, you can select the default program in the Control Panel. For Win7 Start > Control Panel > Programs > Set Default Programs and Set Program Access and Computer Defaults.)
You probably installed a program that changed your homepage, I know several programs I have installed have asked me if I wanted to change my homepage. Just go back to yahoo and set it as the homepage and whenever you install programs watch out for the screen about changing the homepage (ask is the culprit I see the most.) Any more questions let me know, hope this helps.
go into your browser's setting to change or set homepage for that browser. there may even be a "reset to default (or previous)" setting, otherwise you will need to manually enter the web page you want. Note: many software installations change your homepage against your wishes and without asking your permission. Use good antivirus, firewall, and spyware prevention programs to avoid this.
