Frost Refrigerator is making ice but there is a frost buildup on the back wall of the freezer and the refrigerator is not as cold as the setting suggest. Have tried turning up the controls but that does not seem to help.

Thanks.  Model is Kenmore 363.50227000 Side by Side.  I took the back panel off last night and the defrost heater was covered in frost.  I used a hair dryer to melt and then put the back panel back on.  Had the defrost heater replaced about a year ago but cannot seem to locate the Defrost thermostat or Defrost timer.  I took the cold control plastic cover off in the refrigerator but not sure where to look from there for the defrost timer.

    Thanks again for the help

Thank you again for all the help.  I do have one more question.  Do I remove the knob control for the Freezer and Fresh Food Section to get to the defrost timer?

    Thank you again

I used a hair dryer to defrost the heater and the frost is now back again. Is the timer on the right hand side of the refrigerator behind the plastic control temp switches? If I order the part is it the Control Defrost from the parts list or control temp? I see the heater in the part list and wanted to know if it was difficult to replace.

Thank you very much for your help

Need help one more time. When I go to www3.sears.com I key in the part number from the original parts list and a selection of 4 parts come up for each part number. I keyed the part number in for WR85x0282 which has a description of LOW SIDE ASM. I selected the first part # for refrigerators and freezers and the part was returned as Evaporator. I selected the other available part with the same number and that description came back as LOW SIDE ASM. This is happening for all the part numbers I key in. How do I know which is the correct one to order?

Thanks again for all the help.

Just found another issue with ice forming over the drain. The defrost heater seemed to take care of the frost problem, however, now it appears as though the drain is not working properly. Ice is forming over the drain after the defrost heater does it's job. What could be causing the ice to buildup on the drain?

    Thanks for the help.

It has a defrost problem.  1. Defrost thermostat  2. Defrost timer.  3. Or Defrost heater.

The defrost thermostat clips onto the evaporator and the timer is behind that panel in the fridge section where you were looking.  You can view a diagram at www3.sears.com.  Look in freshfood section and freezer section.

What part are you trying to get? Is it the defrost thermostat or the timer?

Back wall ice buildup, fridge not cooling but freezer is fine other than ice. Back wall of refrigerator squishes with sound of water behind it. Have had it unplugged for 24 hours, ice gone.

Anytime you have ice buildup in back of freezer it indicates that the auto defrost mechanism is not working. Check the defrost timer, heater element, defrost thermostat for proper operation.

My freezer is producing a lot of ice. There is buildup on the side racks, making it difficult to push/pull the top drawer. There is also frost/ice build up on the back of freezer and bottom floor. I...

This always happens when you don't have 'FROST-FREE' refrigerator. Unplug the power cord or switch off the freezer for about one hour or more when lots of frost stacks (maybe weekly). Turn down the cold lavel to 2-3 instead of higher if there are not so many items in the freezer.

Frost and Ice Buildup

If everything is cooling fine and the frost is not on the back wall but just the floor at the bottom then your defrost drain is stopped up. Remove the bottom basket and clean up the ice on the floor of the freezer. Look on the back wall and you will see some more ice up a littler higher at the back. This is where the drain is. Clean all the ice out from this area too using hot water or a hair dryer. Once you find the drain hole make sure you get all this ice out of it as well. You can take a screw driver once you have melted the ice and gently push it through the drain hole. Once the hole is cleared you should be able to pour hot water freely through the hole. (It is best to turn the refrigerator off while you do this)

Refrig not cold enough, ice buildup on banck panel of freezer

ice build up means your refrigerator is not going through defrost cycle. you have ice build up on evaporator which restricts your cold air flow into the fresh food side. check defrost timer, defrost thermostat located on evaporator behind the wall where your getting frost. check defrost heater. it wraps under the evap.

Side by side Sub Zero not cold enough.

How old is "OLDER" ? If there is no frost buildup on the back wall of the freezer you could have one of two problems. On older units the compressor wears out with years of service and no longer pumps efficiently. Or it could possibly be low on refrigerant charge. ether one of these two problems is a sign that is time to update to new unit.

If you have frost buildup on the back wall of the freezer section you then would have a problem in the defrost circuit attributed to the timer, defrost heaters or defrost thermostat.

GE Side by Side Refrigerator

Check for frost on the back wall of the freezer section. If no frost buildup is noted check that the condenser under the refrigerator behind a removable panel in back is clean and that the fan there operates when the compressor runs.

If you have frost buildup in the freezer section on the back wall you have a defrost system problem. These problems are not related to the cleaning ladies work unless some paper or other item may be stopping the fan from turning.

Black Maytag Side by Side MSD2756AEB 7+ yrs old? Won't stay cold...

Your condenser where the heat is removed from the refrigeration system may be plugged with dust. The condenser is more than likely located in back of the refrigerator behind a removable panel. Remove the panel and clean it out. Reinstall the panel after you have cleaned the condenser.

Check the back wall of the freezer for frost buildup. If there is frost buildup on the back wall it indicates that there is a problem in the defrost circuit.

Frost buildup

It is not defrosting.  You have to remove back wall of freezer where frost is and take hairdryer to melt away frost.  You need to check defrost heater.  This is on bottom of evaporator coils.  It has wires going to it on both sides.  This has to be checked for continuity.  If ok on top of coils is a round unit called a defrost terminator.  This needs to be checked for continuity also.  This must be done before you defrost coils.  It should have continuity when its cold.
If these are ok you probably have a bad timer or defrost board.

Frig not cold but freezer is ice maker not making much ice either

Is your fan blowing in the freezer? Frost on the back wall of the freezer usually indicates a defrost problem... defrost themostate, heaters, take back panel off and check evap for frost build up and if your fan in working.
