step one on all PCs like this A- series 1: remove huge battery first, leave it out until the day PC runs perfect again, next. 2: connect the power pack. AC/DC power pack to PC DC jack too. and run PC on AC power only 3: per your manual it tells to run the PC for 12 hours, this charges that tiny nasty coin cell inside called the ML1220 seen here (coin solders down) https://www.pcdied.com/cmos.html#soldere...
I must warn you the ML1220 has life time of only 5 years. so they like to fail.
that is what fails first. next is HDD. both batteries love to fail and soon.step one on all PCs like this A- series

the new PC in the box (NIB) the papers in the box
told you to charge it first. for 12 hour , or over night did you do that?
both batteries, in the PC must be charged first;
and the big battery loves to fail if abused. even 2 years old .
abuse is over or under charged.
most times modern PCs avoid the overcharge act.
but under charged is easy, just throw the PC in a closet fore 2 years and bingo, battery is bad or degraded huge.

I'm guessing you are saying your laptop starts up for 5 seconds when you try to boot it then shuts down and only with the ac adapter.
Remove the Power Cord & Battery , Open the Cover to the Memory and remove one of thememory chips (the cover will have one or two screws on it). Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.
There are many things that can cause this type of symptom.
Is it failing on battery only? May need a new battery.
is it failing when plugged into the power adapter?
The adapter input jack will fail over time and need to be replaced.
There is considerable mechanical stress on this part, and It will fail where the jack is soldered to the circuit board.
Internal circuits can fail. Maybe a new laptop will be cheaper than repairing this one.
I had problems getting an Acer Extensa 4420 to boot or to enter bios. It would never complete the post. After taking it apart, changing the CMOS battery and making several other adjustments I read that a faulty DVD would cause the problem. I removed the DVD and it went right into Windows VISTA. So I put the DVD back in and had the same problems over again. The issue is a faulty DVD and has nothing to do with the motherboard, or the CMOS battery, or any of those other complex issues. It is simply a faulty DVD that refused to allow POST to proceed.
Hi there. Take the system memory out and clean the brass contacts, then reseat the memory and try to boot the PC up again. The memory is located behind a panel underneath the laptop like this >>>>>> .
Compaq and Hp are having issues with several models, My wife just got hers repaired free out of warranty. Go to copaqs website, look up your model and see if it is one they are offering free one time repairs on. Wife's computer was doing same thing, they replaced the motherboard. Took about 2 weeks round trip . Good luck
