SOURCE: Sony surround sound hookup

In short, the answer is: Hook up all three to each other. I have a Samsung DLP HDTV, and I was trying to hook up a Sony DAV-HDX500 home-theater system and a Comcast HD set-top box, but I found that the Sony user guide is helpful only for setting up the speakers. Most of what it had to say about HDMI and getting the TV sound or cable sound to go through the speaker system was wrong (or, at least, it didn't work for me). So, here's what I did. I connected Component video cables (Y/Pb/Pr out) from the Cable box to the TV (Y/Pb/Pr in), audio cables from the Cable box (audio out) to the Sony system ("SAT/Cable" audio in), and an HDMI cable from the Sony system (HDMI out) to the TV (HDMI in). This allows me to 1) watch DVDs with surround sound through the TV's HDMI source (when the "DVD" format is selected on the Sony system), 2) watch cable with surround sound through the TV's Component source (when the "SAT/Cable" format is selected on the Sony system), and 3) watch cable WITHOUT the surround sound, as I did before I ever had the Sony system. One item of note: When watching a non-HD channel with the surrond sound on, the audio is slightly out of synch with the video; thankfully, there's no such problem on HD channels. Anyway, I hope this helps. It drove me crazy for two days straight!

SOURCE: Can't get XBOX 360 to have audio through surround sound speaker

Make sure that you have the RC Cables (red and white) plugged into the audio ports that coincides with the component video inputs. If that wont work then try plugging the audio and video cables into the inputs for the satellite, since that works. That way you can isolate the issue. If it still wont work try using the XBOX 360 HDMI cable. That has both audio and video.

When I play a DVD in the system I can only get the surround sound out of the speakers but no voices. If I play a CD or hook it up to my tv everything is ok.I have tried a number of DVD's and all have the...

sounds like you need to surround modes. There is usually a Stereo, Dolby, DTS, "virtual surround", 4-speaker mode etc..
When you play a CD or connect to TV it likely defaults to playing stereo or virtual surround.

With real surround, almost all of the voices are coming from the center-channel speaker (normally placed closest to the TV).

Also, check to make sure the center channel is connected properly.

Orion model TV1934a - I do not have the original remote - how can I set it to play a DVD. I have generice remote that does work the TV but the input button on the remote does not work.

Try doing a auto channel search while a dvd is on and connected to the TV. An av input is usually reached to the bottom of all the channels. for example pushing the channel below channel two the next one would be AV input.

Lg home theater to lg plasma tv

This is a typical problem with TV broadcast UNLESS you use a matrix DSP surround sound mode, most DVD audio is either Dolby digital 5.1 surround or DTS multi-channel surround sound, unless you are viewing a HDTV broadcast with 5.1 Digital sound connected from the TV to the receiver then you are probably receiving a 2 channel Stereo sound format, I would suggest that you try to set your TV input mode to a audio Dolby Pro- Logic which will yield 5.1 and should engage all speakers.

DVD player and receiver will not play a dvd in surround sound ?

The dvd player is responsible for reading the surround sound track, and sending it to the receiver. First make sure you are playing the surround sound track on the dvd, many have a stereo track too. Next, try another dvd and see if you can play surround sound on that one. If you can't play surround on ANY dvd I would start looking at the audio connection from dvd to receiver. Are you using an optical cable? Red, white, and yellow RCA cables? Optical will transmit any sound over only one cable, RCA cables need one cable for each channel (LF, C, RF, LR, RR, sub.) If your connections are correct, is the receiver set to play a surround sound track? Is it set in 2 channel mode?
