I had exactly the same problem. In my case I was able to deal with it by twisting the whole upper place of the printer (the half side of the printer that you open when changing cartridges), like when you remove the ice cubes from a tray.. I have to do this only during the starting up. After the initial scanner test, it works normally till the printer does the automatic scanner test again, or if I turn it on/off again.
I am trying to get a permanent solution by installing a piece or rubber on one side of the printer, between both upper and lower sides, so it will create the twisting effect.
By the way, I would agree with the previous comment from doc_delphi. The printer is not too expensive and I would replace by a new one. Unfortunately I live in a jungle and its not easy to bring stuff up here. We have to be creative and develop patience.
I hope this post helps others. Good Luck;

SOURCE: CX11NF "Paper Jam" and Noise

Had the same problem, too. The grinding noise came from the gear of the loading mechanism, located (if looked on printer from behind) on the right side next to paper tray.
I had a problem with the paper loading, too.
That problem was due to a broken wire for the magnetic release of the loading mechanism, located on the right side, too.

My experience with this epson is, that most problems with it come from broken wires, e.g. the problems with the ADF I had, the problem with the magnetic release I had.....

If I hadn´t invested so much time and money in this printer, I´d rather scrap it immediately.

SOURCE: Epson Stylus CX6400 not printing

Hi, below the belt that pulls the head from left to right is a 'bail bar' which the head moves along. Put a little light oiul on the bar, check for any bits of paper jammed in the mechanism which may be obstrucring the print head.
Also check that the bushes which support the print head haven't been dislodged. You can tell because there will be a strange looking doughnut type thing sitting and looking lost on the bail bar. you can usually just push this back into place on the side of the print head.

Possible scanner failure.
Turn off your printer. Disconnect it from your computer. Toggle the transportation lock on the scanner unit if there is any. It has to be in the unlock position. Turn the printer back on.

My samsung dishwasher has a constant buzz that occurs during start up and lasts through all of the cycles. I saw where there is an electrical noise filter and did not know if that could be the cause.

No a noise filter is a different kettle of fish. That stops electrical interference noise from affecting your television, radios and electrical devices.

The most likely source of the hum is the start capacitor on the motor, or the motor itself.

This has a different idea

Humming or Grinding If your Samsung dishwasher makes noise when starting that sounds like a low hum, it's part of normal function. The motor makes this sound as it operates throughout the wash cycle. However, a dishwasher making loud humming noise or grinding sounds could mean that debris is caught in the drain pump.

Samsung Dishwasher Making Noise? Follow These Tips

This says the drain pump, but the drain pump only runs to empty out so it wouldn't do it all the time.

5120 code error

Any of these error codes (51.20 51.21 51.22 51.23) points to a failure with one of the laser scanner assemblies on the HP Color LaserJet 4610 an 4650 series. To solve these error codes, replace the corresponding laser scanner. Sometimes when the laser scanner fails you will also hear loud noises (often higher-pitched noises like screeching sounds); the noises can be another sign that the laser scanner needs replacing.

SCANNER FAILURE

The issue is with hardware of the printer.
Scan feature is most expensive and sensitive part of the printer.
I suggest you to contact HP support. If the printer is under warranty you may get a replacement printer or else they may give you a better option.

If not on warranty you may try this workaround:

  1. With unit off, press the 'Cancel' (pink button) and 'Color' (green button).
  2. This will start the printer in a diagnostic mode. Press '1' to run the diagnostics.
  3. Press 'Enter' or other keys as directed by the display prompts. When you don't know what to press, the 'Enter' key usually works. Some of the keys called for (for example 'Plus' and 'Minus') are not on every psc 2210 keyboard. They are mapped to one of the "directional" keys just above the numeric keypad area next to the 'Enter' key. Keep trying keys till one works.
  4. After all the diagnostics, the display will either go blank or display 'Initializing...' . Wait 10-20 seconds to make sure it isn't doing anything else then press the 'On' key.
The printer should start without the scanner error and the grinding/chattering noise.

Leave the printer on because the next power cycle brings the chattering noise back.
But, when it does, the procedure above seems to fix it every time.

Scanner error 5 appears. Have done all the recommended things in the manual plus other things like turning everything off for the night, rebooting computer, etc. numerous times.

Sorry but I have a bad news. Scanner error xx means that the scanner lamp is not able to move and if it does it cannot go all the way by either something blocking it or a gear worn. In some cases it does like a humming or clicking noise. The printer need service, probably a new scanner. You can try an NV RAM: Turn it off and press and hold the down arrow and cancel. Then turn it on and wait for the message ''permanent storage init'' then release the keys and will get back to ready. If the error persist contact HP they are giving 2 years warranty from the purchase date if that message appear. Good Luck

Non responsive printer

the noise can be caused by a problem with the ink carriage or the scanner.

Try this:
Follow the steps below in the order presented to determine the source and resolution for the noise

1. Check the scanner (if it has a flatbed)
  1. Open the scanner cover.
  2. With the lid open, press the Start Copy button to make a copy. The scanner mechanism should move down the glass.
  3. If the scanner mechanism does not move and noise is present, contact HP. If the scanner mechanism moves without noise, continue with Step two below.
2. Check the print mechanism Check this knowledge base from hp Step three: Service the product If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem you may have to contact hp to have them service the product.good luck

Start up problem with printer

Your scanner glass is get dirty and all scanners make a self diagnostic program when we turn on the printers.
At this point, you will hear a little noise from the scanner carriage lamp, witch is doing self calibrating. In this calibrating time the scanner unit "read" the white and the black levels, and the white (in your case) is not white, is quite gray because is dirty.

The solution is a very simple, but require much skill.

You must disassembly the scanner unit, remove any screw you see (you need an no. 2 phillips screwdriver) and very gently remove the upper side (with glass) from the rest of scanner unit. Please note that is several plastic fasteners to be disposed.

after you remove the glass (with a plastic frame) you get a small tissue of cotton and soaking with an windows cleaner solutions. Gently clean the BOTH surfaces of scanner glass.

For assembly follow the reverse procedure.

Beware to the glass, it has only 3 mm thickness. Don't broke!

Like I sad: simple problem, but require much skill. If you think is to difficult for you, please go to the service.
