Frig mdl#pbb1951grq freezer works fine frig will not cool.

Damper wide open barely moves when temp control is rotated from 1-7

  • phoneguy23 Jun 06, 2009

Thanks for the info, when set on #4 with ice applied to the sensor the damper is at the half way point. If I turn the temp dial to 1 the damper is almost closed as I rotate the dial to 7 the damper will open fully. The inside temp stays at about 60 deg. It turns on but no cooling action, runs for about 10 min and shuts off. As stated the freezer is perfect. Please help the beer is getting warm!!! Thanks, Mike.

Thank you, 5 12 packs of soda were placed on the lower shelf thus blocking the vents. Everything is fine. The Beer is cold! Thanks again, Mike.

The damper is not opened and closed just by control movement alone. Your control connects to the damper by a notched plastic band. The damper also has a temperature sensor on it. To check damper operation set control to 4. Hold an ice cube to the temp sensor (a coil of small aluminum tubing) and the damper sholud close. As long as the fresh food comprtment is calling for cold air, the damper will remain open reguardless of control setting.

Your damper operation sounds OK. Normal product temps are from 0* - 10* in the freezer and 36* - 42* in the fresh food compartment. Test temps by putting a thermometer in a cup of cooking oil that has been in each compartment overnight. A wide open damper would be asking for more cold air in the fresh food compartment. There is either one or two return air vents in the floor of the fresh food compartment. Look to the rear under the crisper. The return air vent(s) should be inobstructed. You also want to see if the back (interior) wall of the freezer has any frost build up. This would indicate an issue with a defrost component and would restrict airflow. Also verify the evaporator (freezer) fan is turning at full speed.

Fridge s/s cool on freezer but no air cooling fridge side

First, inspect the back wall of the freezer for frost build-up. Defrost failures are a common cause for incorrect fridge temps, and the frost will block air-flow even if your damper is wide open. if there is no frost, verify that the evaporator fan in the freezer is spinning, THEN check the damper door to see if it is open during cooling. Call a tech, guessing will likely lead to a broken machine and/or tons of wasted money!

Why is Fridge not cooling well?

The part number you need is going to be WR09X10050. This is for the damper assembly, but while you are at it change out part number WR55X10150. this is the part that controls the damper and more than likely if one fails the other will be soon to follow

Fridge section not cooling enough but freezer OK

Is the fan blowing in the freezer section? Also, check to see if you have airflow thru the damper (vent) in the frig section.

I have a GSL25JFPA BS that the frig side will not cool properly. Repalced the mother board. t stat in freezer and thermistor in frig. Freezer works fine. Damper will open when first plugged in but closes...

Unplug the refrigerator and then plug back in. Using multimeter check between J3-1 and J3-4.
Must be done within 10 seconds of starting. You should have 6 VDC. If you do replace damper, if not replace motherboard.

Frig side does not cool. freezer side cools

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Freezer freezes, refrigerator is 55 degrees

All refrigerators also have a return air vent. You need to make sure this is not blocked by frost, the units own foam insulation or even by product placement. You should find it behind the crispers in the bulkhead between the freshfood and freezer compartments. You also want to verify the supply duct behind the damper is not blocked.

Frig won't cool, freezer works fine

Defrost unit completely. You're frosting up. Then, avoid leaving the door open, leaving liquids and food uncovered. Clean condenser coils. If it happens again, you need refrigerant.

Jenn-Aire JCD2389GES Side by Side: Frig not cooling fully - freezer fine

i'm thinking that maybe an air duct is either blocked or the damper isnt opening. In the freezer compartment at the top right side there is a cover that is held in place by 1 screw. (look at item number 35 here). remove this cover and make sure ice is not blocking it up. if that is ok, then check the damper control to be sure it is opening and closing properly. The damper is located on the refrig side in the control cover (look at item# 8 here).

Fridge too cold

There is a damper motor that is behind the vent where you feel the cold air coming out in the fridge section.  That damper should open and close after making temp. adjustments.  See if you can look in the vent and see if it is wide open.  Set your freezer on the coldest setting and check this vent again an hour or so later.  If it is still wide open then that damper motor is bad.  Let me know if you find something different or have any questions.
