On my Z42PXID/Z50PX20, just lost the picture. Audio still works.

I bought this 50 inch TV from Circuit City about 21/2 years ago. Suddenly couple of days ago the picture disappeared. For $2500, I would expect it to last a few more years.

Who can tell me what the cost might be to get this thing repaired?

I had the "pop" happen to me about a month ago. Sounds like the same symptoms as you list. I searched online to find the most common fix to the the Y Sustain board. You can find this part online for about $150. I have used rivervalleyelectronics.net. Ultimately, I chose not to fix my tv and bought a new one. Before trashing the TV I removed all the boards and have them available for sale if you are interested. I will sell all the boards, including speakers and cooling fans for $150 plus shipping. Contact me if interested.

Samsung DLP TV, no picture, has sound

Try replacing the ballast next. Its the small circuit board directly underneath the lamp housing. You can access it through the lamp door. If the ballast is overheating or has a leaking capacitor, the tv won't stay lit for more than a minute or two.

Hitachi won't replace

I had the same problem a red halo that eventually led to complete discoloration. I called Hitachi and they had their local rep come out and look, they said it would cost $400 to install $1500 new light engine. Then a couple of months ago, I read a post on this site (Varian - Feb. 14, 2008 - suggesting Hitachi Customer Relations at 800-654 7013 was providing the light engine without charge).

So, I called them again and was not able to persuade them to cover my Hitachi LCD projection (50V500). It appears Hitachi has a poor record with their Light Engine as well all of their new generation TV. They have since stopped selling the LCD projection, but they are into plasma and LCD TV and likewise do not seem to have a good track record - as I hear from other users.

I did the smart thing and switched over to a Sony XBR4 Bravia 52" LCD TV 1080p HD at a reduced price (Approximately $2800 from Amazon.com!). My Hitachi cost me about $ 3600 at a Circuit City Store. Therefore, no Hitachi products for me and not from Circuit City, since, Circuit City asked for $4000 for the same Sony TV, I bought from Amazon, which included delivery and installation. Circuit City would add another $80 for delivery.

HITACHI really sucks!!! Put these people out of business!

the problem you are having can be fixed with an adjutment that has to be done on the power supply. you will need a thec to do this adjustment. as for the remote you can get them here.

as for the extended warranty if it is still under manufacturers warranty you should be able to get it from the place you purchased it from( if they offer it) or the manufacturer.

Technician just replaced the upper right (from the back) circuit board that conects to the panel. TV now works fine. I bought the display model 8 months ago with extended Circuit City Warranty for $1000 so I can't complain. This was covered entirly by LG/Zenith (nicest Cust. Svc. ever) so we'll wait and see what happens.
