My JVM1653 runs for 3 seconds then resets to prompt for time and date. The problem is getting worse.

GE JVM1653, runs for about 3 seconds, then turns off and needs to be reset with date, time, etc. Manufacture date on the inside ta is january 2005.

Just started - last night (once) and tonight (once). Cooks for 2-3 seconds, shuts off - and display goes all 'alien'. Needs time/date reset. JVM1653 - manufactered 2004.

First GE OTC microwave - magnetron failure.

Replace it with another (this one) because the mounting etc. was already in place.

I'm questioning that decision right about now.

This is probably due to a defective or possibly loose magnetron.

If yours has loose mounting nuts / bolts or the wire mesh RF gasket was not installed or got pinched, that can also cause
this RF leakage interference inside the oven.

It may also need a new high-voltage diode and stirrer, and the cavity may be affected.

GE had a campaign (but not a recall!) covering several models.

My Maytag MMV1153BAW Microwave that is only a couple of years old stop working. I changed the fuse (which was blown). It then came on for a fraction of a second and stopped working again. I tried...

There are three micro switches inside the latch assembly. One of these absolutely prevents the possibility of the Magnetron being energized while the door is open. The way it works is if the door is open and the Magnetron is energized, it will act as a direct short circuit and that will blow the fuse. It works very well, unfortunately, that tremendous surge of current ruins the microswitch. Replace the switch. You will find this same information on the instruction sheet inside the cabinet.

The microwave starts, then stops 2 seconds later

I tried a solution posted on another posting http://www.fixya.com/support/t242480-stops_cooking by placing the conductive plastic behind the control panel and it worked.
