Hi,
I have a 1300 watt microwave and have had it for couple of years. Lately it has started to turn off automaticaticaly after 3 seconds.
This is probably due to a defective or possibly loose magnetron.
If yours has loose mounting nuts / bolts or the wire mesh RF gasket was not installed or got pinched, that can also cause
this RF leakage interference inside the oven.
It may also need a new high-voltage diode and stirrer, and the cavity may be affected.
GE had a campaign (but not a recall!) covering several models.
Details are in their bulletin at http://207.234.249.73/mwd/ge_mw_mag_kit_bulletin.pdf

My JVM1653 runs for 3 seconds then resets to prompt for time and date. The problem is getting worse.
My unit also after approx. 3 seconds shut down and request you enter time and date. this happens each time I press start. My system was installed by a certified GE technicians
GE JVM1653, runs for about 3 seconds, then turns off and needs to be reset with date, time, etc. Manufacture date on the inside ta is january 2005.
Just started - last night (once) and tonight (once). Cooks for 2-3 seconds, shuts off - and display goes all 'alien'. Needs time/date reset. JVM1653 - manufactered 2004.
First GE OTC microwave - magnetron failure.
Replace it with another (this one) because the mounting etc. was already in place.
I'm questioning that decision right about now.
