I can't upgrade my bios cause I don't know the bios password. What can I do ? I bought this dell latitude C610 to A friend (M. Allard) in 2002. I never need to go in bios before. Please I need somme help

Unfortunately if your bios is password protected there is only 2 ways to get in, find the person that knows the password or reset the CMOS by taking out or disconnecting the battery in the motherboard. Now i would not recommend you doing the CMOS reset if your not a technician. Find a trained and certified technician to reset the CMOS for you and you should be fine after that.

Dell C610 battery cmos/bios

The removal and replacement instructions can be found in the dell service documents available at support.dell.com. You can look it up by service tag or model number. But in short, the procedures are. 1. Remove the hard drive, then remove the keyboard. The keyboard is removed by removing the 5 screws on the bottom of the laptop marked with a "K" beside them. Then the keyboard can be removed. be careful not to tear the ribbon cable, and you do not have to remove the ribbon cable. The battery will be in the center of the opening, it will have a white plug that plugs into the keyboard. Contrary to Ayyasam's recomendations above, it is not necessary to remove "all" the screws on the bottom, nor is it necessary to remove the bottom of the laptop. It should be a 5 minute project. Again for any Dell item, the factory repair manuals are available online, and have exact instructions including pictures and diagrams.

Karen, to confirm where is the BIOS/CMOS battery located?

The C610 doesn't use a standard CR2032 CMOS Battery. Is uses Dell Part Number 5D566 7.2 volt Reserve Battery under the keyboard. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latc610/sm_en/rsrvbatt.htm#1000202

I need bios 4 dell latitude c610

If you can't find the jumper to flash the BIOS or if such jumper doesn't exist, you can remove the battery that keeps the BIOS memory alive. It's a button-size battery somewhere on the motherboard (on elder computers the battery could be a small, typically blue, cylinder soldered to the motherboard, but usually has a jumper on its side to disconnect it, otherwise you'll have to unsolder it and then solder it back). Take it away for 15-30 minutes or more, then put it back and the data contained into the BIOS memory should be volatilized. I'd suggest you to remove it for about one hour to be sure, because if you put it back when the data aren't erased yet you'll have to wait more time, as you've never removed it. If at first it doesn't work, try to remove the battery overnight.
Important note: in laptop and notebooks you don't have to remove the computer's power batteries (which would be useless), but you should open your computer and remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard.
