We believe we have an Avital 5303 (remotes look correct from Avital website). This morning my wife tried to start the 03 Tahoe with remote and would not start due to dead battery. Put on charger and vehicle alarm started going off, once I got alarm to stop the Avital FOB shows a hammer over the windshield and the car will do nothing with the key. Is there a reset procedure for this?

it sounds like its the bypass module. When it doesnt start the car goes into security mode and wont let it start for up to 15 minutes. I would check the bypass module to see if it still has power or has been reset, if its not something you can do, bring it to a local mobile electronics shop and they should be able to take care of it for ya.

where did you get it installed? what kind of car is it? unplug the brain of the security system and see if your car starts

If this is the factory alarm going off when you remote start the vehicle, the factory disarm wire is not connected. If you would list the year/make/model of the vehicle, I could direct you to the wire.
SOURCE: remote start only starts with key in the ignition
It sounds like the immobilizer bypass module has either lost its programming due to the dead battery or a voltage spike from jump starting/recharging the battery or it has malfunctioned. Without knowing which module is installed, it is not possible to determine if it can be reprogrammed. The immobilizer bypass module substitutes the transponder that is in your key and allows the vehicle to start. When it is malfunctioning, it may not be providing a signal or providing the wrong signal the vehicle ECU is expecting. The reason you can remote start the car with the key in the ignition is because the transponder is being read fromthe key and the ECU is allowing the vehicle to start.
