Lincoln Fresh o Matic Leak

I have water leaking from around the piece where the water pump is. How can I figure out if I need to replace the pump or the seal, it's not exactly easy to get it apart!

Hello daveqofgad

You should ask Jacobofmanassah. He fixed many of ours. Actually I was here looking for a decent price for a new one because the steam plate in one of them just cracked.

The adding adding coolant means you have a leak somewhere, and low coolant level will cause this. How often do you check the fluid levels? Check for leaking hoses, weak radiator or expansion tank cap, leak at the water pump, and leaks around the radiator.

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

Your pump seal is the most likely culprit. As the water leaks around the motor shaft it will trickle down to the bottom and drip off. Double check your drain plugs first to be sure it isn't one of them dripping. Assuming they are not, it is the seal.

Waterway pumps use a press-fit 1000 seal. It is not an 'easy' seal change compared to most. You may want to take it to a pump repair shop for the seal change and the shop warranty that should come with it in case it is not done perfectly. If you do it yourself, get a piece of 1" rigid PVC about 8" long with clean-cut squared off ends to use as a driver.

Remove the front pump cover exposing the impeller. Remove the cover plate off the back off the motor to expose the end of the shaft opposite the impeller. Depending on the motor, lock the shaft with a wrench, screwdriver or allen key then spin the impeller off counter-clockwise to expose both halves of the seal.

Remove the old pieces completely and replace them. Put a SMALL bead of silicone caulk along the beveled edge in the seal plate, line up the metal cup making sure you NEVER touch either seal face in the process, and then punch it down with a mallet and the PVC pipe. The ceramic piece can get a small amount of a synthetic lube or just use a little soapy water to ease pressing it into the impeller recess again making sure not to touch the polished seal face. Use clean rags or pieces of paper to cover the seal as you work with it.

When i move my lincon star liking water.

Hi,
This sounds like you have a problem with the water-pump, it will need to be replaced. This is quite a common fault and usually happens when the vehicle reaches 100,000km or more.
Let me know if you need more information.
Thanks
Jason

Losing water under water pump

It appears that the seal on the shaft of the water pump has failed and is leaking out of the drain hole that is built into the pump. The omly way to fix the leak is to replace the water pump as a complete assembly.

I have a coolant leak.2001 alero 4cy 2.4

If you had the engine replaced and have the same leak, it may be be somewhere else. You can rent a tool from most parts stores that pressurizes the cooling system. If you get that tool, top off the coolant and follow instructions to pressurize that system, you may be able to see where it's leaking. While it's under pressure, take a flashlight or shop light and look in all the main areas. (hose connections, radiator, water pump, ect)

Lincoln 4000 Fresh-O-Matic

Any service man that said it is easier and cheaper to buy a new one is seriously confused. A Fresh-O-Matic runs around $1,300.00 to $1,500.00, depending on where you get a price, and usual service calls on Fresh-O-Matics are around $150.00. I have loaners that are over 30 years old and they still work great and they use the same parts. I would recommend calling Lincoln Food Service 1-260-436-0735 or send them an e-mail at [email protected] and see who the recommended service company is in your area.
