Yup, I pretty much have the same problem. I constantly receive the OB error code and on some rare occasion I'll get a C1 error code. I haven't called a service tech and am just now finding the plethora of complaints as I search the Internet. Usually, I can cancel the load cycle and select the 8 minute rinse cycle and sometimes that works ok.

  • Anonymous Dec 28, 2007

I have the Kenmore Calypso but it sounds like the same issue. I also get the Ob or C1 message almost every load. If you cancel the wash cyle at that point and press "extended spin" it usually works, but not always. I've tried less full loads but that doesn't always help either. Has anyone had a service call on this? I'm wondering it it's worth the trouble or should we just get a new washer. Ours is six years old. It looks like it's too late to be part of the lawsuit or recall that was done a few years ago. Of course I didn't have any trouble with it then.

I've just begun having this same problem... what a piece of garbage washing machine. Of course, like some of you other posters, I too find all the lawsuits going on AFTER I bought the machine. We've had ours two years and over the last week begun having alot of 'codes' come on.. today, it started gushing water out the bottom of the machine - numerous times after we re-balanced it, reset it and of course cleaned up the mess. After reading quite a few of the horror stories of the repair issues, I think it's best we just buy a new machine !

    Hi All...

same problem...5 yr old machine, C1 error code, then the ob. I ran the diagnostic tests which are outlined inside the front panel of the machine in a little bag...all points to a drain pump harness failure OR pump failure OR controller failure......in any event, the extend spin doesn't work for me, as the machine is NOT draining water......any help available???

3 year old machine-no problems until this week. I came home from work and found out that it had flooded. Still holding water in the drum--pump failure, right? So I drained it out--gallons of water. Opened it up and removed the pump. I found no obstructing debride and the pump turned the impeller by hand just fine. Well, I got a new pump anyway and changed it out. It installed very nicely. I was ready to congratulate myself. Well, I just ran a test load and half-way thru the washer stopped, chirped and gave me a "ob" error code. I don't see how it was out of balance because it was a very small load. I did notice that the washer didn't seem to fill very much during the cycle. Any thoughts?

I too get the OB code frequently and the CL code once in a while. I have replaced the drain pump and cleaned out everything, but the problem persists. I am going to try changing the U-Joint and will report back on that.

I have this problem and my washer also has codes "LS, and LF"Sometimes, we have had the washer a little over 1 1/2 year's and we arethe second owners of the set. over all the set was bought in May of 06'. Is there a way to fix all of my problumes? The repair company that Whirlpool uses charges $75just to come out and look at the thing, and that's not including parts. On top of all of the dryeris now not drying clothes and the heating element was replace right before we got it. It took me over 2 hour's to dry a load of Sock's.

Well guys, I am working thru the same problems. No problems with it for the first 3 years then one day it flooded. An apparent pump failure. So I removed the old pump and ordered a new one on line. It changed out easily. Ran a test load tonight--half-way thru I got an "ob" error code. It was a small load but seemed to me that the drum never filled with as much water as I would have expected. Any thoughts?

Update: found a sock in the tub drain. I had to pop out the agitator and loosen about 8 bolts underneath it. I saw the sock between the metal drum and the plastic tub. I pulled it out thru a small opening under the agitator. The sock plugged the drain hole that led to a sump under the tub and to the pump. My pump was fine, but the water couldn't get to it. Now I have a new pump anyway.

Well Folks.....here is a solution....

The pump motor (which is accessible from underneath) has a part with 2 hoses. Unclip the hoses (be sure to have a large bucket), unclip the 2 retainer clips and take off the pump....There may be some stuff stuck inside there, like a baby sock, a small rag or other stuff.....Inspect the gear on top to make sure it's not stripped. If so, it should be replaced...BUT, the motor and the pump are sold as one unit...

Hope this helps.

The problem with this, is this could be a variety of things. The Calypso has a wonderment of problems like this. It could be anything from a u-joint/leveler system problem, to a wiring harness/control board issue, to a water level issue. Thats why these Calypso's are so very hard to determine fault. Just be sure that the machine is as level as it can be, and also be sure that the load is as balanced as it can be, no overloading. Good luck with this one, I hate to say. It may be a issue of getting a service tech there to run all the diagnostics on site (not to cheap to fix either). Sorry I couldnt be of further help with this one, just the Calypso (or as we used to call them Callapso's) are very difficult to say the least. Let me know if I can be of further help.

What does error code ob mean on a Whirlpool Calypso washer? The washer stops in mid cycle with the error code ob. I restart it and after a few minutes it shows the same error code again.

The OB indicates and out of balance condition has been detected by the motor control. You say this happens when the washer is empty also. One thing about the OB error is that the lid must be opened to clear the error and allow the washer to advance to the next part of the cycle. If the lid is not opened to adjust the clothes then the OB error will happen again.

If the OB error was cleared and the OB occurs with an empty load then the motor control has failed.

The drain pump must work. The image below shows how to run a diagnostic test to check the drain pump. Follow the instructions in the image below and check the drain pump operation. If the pump runs and the water does not drain then the sump is clogged. If the pump hums but does not run then the pump needs to be replaced.

Hi There
I'm giving you the coeds that you need. So i hope this helps you and let me know how it goes.
Ld Long Drain Ld flashes if it takes longer than 5 minutes to pump out water to a point where the operating pressure switch resets.

Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.
ob Off Balance If the motor controller detects an unrecoverable off-balance condition, the machine controller will shut down and display an ob for Off Balance

The lid switch must be opened at least once before restarting the cycle, if this condition occurs. Opening the lid will allow the customer to view and redistribute the load.

Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display. S Lid Switch Error The control should flash this error code if it cannot detect the lid switch opening and closing properly. This error code may also be used if there is a disagreement between the motor and machine controllers on the stat if the lid switch. The control should not allow the unit to run in this condition.

This code will also appear if the user presses the START key while the lid is open.

Open the lid or press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.Thank you for writing to fix ya.
Best Regards Richard

The OB error code is short for out of balance. There are two fixes that you can try: One is to move the clothing around in the tub. or Two the machine isn't level and is causing it to falsely error as out of balance.

GE Profile Washing Machine

There is a clutch which is mechanically engaged to stop the drum during agitation.

If the location pin is worn or bent it fails to engage and the machine tries to wash and spin at the same time.

Only solution is to call for a man who can fit a new clutch assy

Whirlpool Calypso stops at 26 minutes and throws ob code

first you need to clean your washer
run the washer with no clothes; add 1 cup vinegar, that will cut the soap residue from the hoses do this on hot wash hot rinse

then when you wash your next load of clothes; fill the tub about 1/4 full, add the soap, turn the agitator to disolve the soap, then add the clothes

this problem happens also if you are using too much soap or a heavy duty soap such as Tide.
