Computer screen going staticky randomly during use, bright flashing colors.

Starting about a month ago, the computer monitor would go into Safe Mode and while everything else would continue running fine (I could hear my programs still active through the speakers), it would have to be turned off and on again a few times before it would work again. This would happen randomly. Now starting since yesterday, the monitor will randomly phase out into this mess of staticky, bright flashing lights and colors and have to be turned off (or will go into Safe Mode on its own). I tried to wait it out like the other times this has happened but the tower started beeping so I just force turned it off. We're totally lost as to why this is happening. Here is a photo of what is happening: http://i1059.photobucket.com/albums/t423/Arkylarky/07027C1D-BCFF-4127-9972-7C277B3F9E39-5941-0000035710B3186F_zpsb00c4304.jpg There used to be long time spans before each "freak out" but now it's barely going ~20 between them.

Do a hard disk check. I would bet your hard drive is going on you. Make sure you back up everything. The other thing to check is your video card. Much easier to deal with on a tower than a laptop.

SOURCE: Dell E173FP Monitor Problem

My Dell E173FPc exhibited this same problem as described by many people on this site. Having looked through the solutions I decided to investigate further.

Posted solutions point to a faulty 12V smoothing capacitor, dry joints on the inverter transformer or faulty driver transistors. All these were Ok in my case, but on closer inspection a dry joint was found on L202 – see picture.

Cleaning off the old solder and re-soldering fixed the problem.
So if your monitor exhibits the same symptoms carefully inspect all the solder joints of large components around the inverter.

SOURCE: Problem w/Dell E176FPf monitor stuck in power save mode

Ok if it the monitor works fine on another unit discount it out of the equation as a monitor problem.
I would suspect the driver on the PC that delivers the problem, especially the video card.
. Check that the cable is also on tightly. remove it and even clean the pins and replug it .the plug on that PC may be dirty

You May need to replace the video card as the communication to the monitor is intermittent and that is why you get the amber light.
Open the box with power off. clean the card if it has a lot of dust on it ( most do and its always a shock) wipe it over ( BOTH SIDES) and then try to start it up as usual with the monitor connected to see if that fixed it ( sometimes works) if not get another card and replace it. Best I can offer without being there to help on the spot.
A new card should allow you access to install and configure it and these days they are pretty cheap to buy

if your pc is starting in safe mode, open up msconfig and on the boot.ini tab, you need to remove the tick from the box that says safeboot.

Windows Vista does not come on the screen when I turn on my computer.

Try removing the battery and using the laptop only with wall power.

When starting computer screen immediately starts flashing colors. Nothing else. Then stops. And glitches randomly.

Turn off your pc and connect another monitor. If the external monitor works fine then the screen cable is damaged or your laptop's LCD needs replacement.

Out of range

When your wxternal monitor says "Out of Range" it may mean that your resolution settings on your computer are set too high.

One way to diagnose and solve this is to reboot your machine.

During bootup press the F8 button to enter Safe Mode.

When prompted, select Safe Mode.

Your machine will then boot up with the mnimum amount of drivers required to run the Windows operating system.

Once you have loggin into your computer, right-click on the Desktop and select Properties.

The Display Prpoerties window will pop up. Select the Settings tab.

Slide the idicator to 1024x768 and hit Apply, then Ok.

Restart your computer and your monitory should display your computer screen.

Please classify this with the appropriate computer brand and model.

Due to an incomplete download my screen is now blank.

I think it maybe something going on with the computer and not the monitor itself. As you turn on your computer keep pressing the F8 key and it will come to a boot menu. Choose safe mode and let it boot up. If you can get into safe mode then that means its something that is starting up that is affecting the operating system. If you get into safe mode, go into system restore and choose the last date that the computer was working correctly and then let the system reboot. Hopefully it will go back into windows all the way. If you can't get into safe mode then at that point try another known good working monitor on the computer and see if you can reboot into windows. If you can get into windows then the monitor is bad. If you still can't get into windows then that means your original monitor is good and that its a problem with the opeating system and that means you'll have to restore it back to factory defaults. Corrupt system files will cause windows not to boot up.

Blue screen...sometimes a white screen?

This error is caused by a bad sector or error on the HD. The best course of action to start with would be to either boot up from a windows XP CD or you can try going into safe mode with command prompt. Once you get to a command prompt you will want to type the command chkdsk /r. This will run a scan of the hard drive and repair any issues it is having. If you are booting from an XP CD you will want to choose the options for repair and go to the repair console. For further information please read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297185

Monitor Flashes Colors when system powered down

Reset factory settings. Push the selection button (second button from the left at the bottom of the monitor, next to the AUTO button), then go the the Factory Reset by pressing the minus button. Press the selection button again, and when it asks if you want to reset say YES by using the minus button. It's a quick fix!
