Question about Philips MCM298/37 Shelf System

1 Answer

Sound Two problems, right out of the box. I can not find any way to balance the two speakers for stereo sound in the room. Also, no matter what sound volume I set the system at when I turn it off and then back on it always goes to #12 which is far to loud. It is supposed to remember the preset volume, what can I do.

Quite front speakers

Check to see if there is a way to adjust the balance for the speakers or set individual volumes for each speaker.

One speaker very quiet

The first thing to do is to see if the problem is the computer's output or inside the speaker / amplifier. This can be done easily by removing the speaker plug from the computer's audio output jack and plugging it into a stereo device with the same size jack (likely a stereo 3.5mm type).

You will probably find that many devices support this plug. Check your phone, MP3 player, iPad, iPod, etc. Turn the volume on the speaker (if equipped) DOWN to minimum and the volume of the source device to about 1/4 -to 1/3 of the way up. Choose a source (MP3, etc.) and PLAY. Slowly turn up the volume on the speaker until it can be heard comfortably. Compare the sound from one speaker to the other. If the sound level is equal, the problem lies with your computer. If the sound is louder on one than the other, the problem is with the speakers. Once you know which is the problem, you can see about repairing / replacing the damaged parts.

Good luck!

No sound on right side speakers on A&B.Sound does work in test mode. Right side Chanel is working, just no sound on right side front in all input modes. I'm a amateur when it comes to stereos.

Go to "menu/Setup/Speaker level" and adjust the balance of L-R.See page 21 of the manual:

One side is working normally, I believe the other one may have a short of some sort in it, what would cause this?

Most probably the problem lies in the cord leading from your PC to the main speakerbox. This should be a standard DIN plugs stereo cable. Try wiggling this cable a bit and see if there are any changes, just to make sure that it is this cable. But even if there isn't any change, the probability of anything else going wrong is highly unlikely. If your PC gives normal stereo sound on headphones (eliminating the PC as a problem) then there's 99% chance that this cable feeding the audio signal is bad. You'll need to replace it with a standard DIN plugs stereo cable.
If however your PC does not give a stereo sound to headphones then double-click the speaker icon in the right lower corner of your screen, and see the output settings and output balance. The balance should be set to 50/50 so both left and right channels get the standard volume level, and that the output is set to standard stereo output.

Speakers only playing on the right side. What to do? Sound is not balance!

Mine also does this from time to time. I've had it for 4 or 5 years now so I think it's just a matter of wear and tear. I find that if I press down gently but firmly on both sides of the TOP of the iPod/iPhone, to firmly seat it, that will get the im600 back to stereo sound. This is easier to notice while you are playing the device with the volume turned up so you can hear it go into stereo mode.

My Aiwa Colour TV, model No. TV-A2019, has developed audio problems. 1. The audio output from the speaker is high even when volume is set at level one. Audio output is constant for volume level 1 to...

You just come aroung the sound decoder section of your tv. Decoder problems may cause the fult you pointed out. Since all the controls are electronically controlled, and all are through sound decoder, which converts sound to stereo the problem must be there. Since sound comes from two channels are ok, there is no problem around sound output. Check for some soldering loose contact, wire socket loose cotanct also.

I am using vista business edition.if i connect the pc to an external stereo speaker i am getting only one channel sound out put.i changed the speaker and checked.for other speaker also same problem i

Sometime on your right speaker there is left/right control, check that, double click on the speaker (bottom right) and see if the slide balance selector above the volume level is one way or the other. then go to your control panel and click on Sound and Audio Devices click on the speaker volume and if that's ok then check next to that is Advance, click there and in the drop down arrow box make sure Desktop Stereo Speakers is displayed, apply and ok. And finally, uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers (choosing the correct operating system)
good luck and please leave rating....thank you
